Winners of the first stage of the Taras Shevchenko International Language and Literature Competition for Pupils and Students are determined

Scientific and pedagogical staff of the Department of the Ukrainian Studies, Culture and Documentation of the National University ''Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic'' conducted the first stage of Taras Shevchenko International Language and Literature Competition for Pupils and Students. The title of the best connoisseur of the Ukrainian language was won by students of five structural subdivisions of the University in the distance format.

Due to quarantine restrictions caused by the global pandemic COVID-19, the first (university) stage of the XII Taras Shevchenko International Language and Literature Competition for Pupils and Students was held in online format by lecturers of the Department of the Ukrainian Studies, Culture and Documentation of Poltava Polytechnic.  Students of the Faculty of Humanities, the Faculty of Physical Culture and Sports, Educational and Research Institute of Finance, Economics, Management and Law, Educational and Research Institute of Information Technologies and Robotics and Educational and Research Institute of Oil and Gas expressed a desire to compete and test their knowledge of the native language.

Proposed tasks included knowledge of the creative heritage of the great Kobzar, participants had to name the genres and main sources of creativity of the poet Taras Shevchenko, to analyze the most famous poetry of the classic.  Students shared their thoughts on the important role of Taras Shevchenko's heritage in the context of world culture development in reflective works on the topic "Taras Shevchenko and modernity".  It is worth noting the high level of knowledge and presentation of student creative works, since all participants were extremely conscientious about performing competition tasks.

The winners of the first stage of the XII Taras Shevchenko International Language and Literature Competition for Pupils and Students were:

  • Anna Deineka, student of the group 201-HD of the Faculty of Humanities (I place), 
  • Snizhana Horopashna, student of the 101-pFR group of the Faculty of Physical Culture and Sports (II place);  
  • Alina Danilenko, student of group 201-ER of the Educational and Research Institute of Finance, Economics, Management and Law (III place).

The contestants were prepared by Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of the Ukrainian Studies, Culture and Documentation at the National University ''Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic'' Liudmyla Derevianko, and Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of the Ukrainian Studies, Culture and Documentation at the National University ''Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic'' Oksana Tur.  According to scientists, the prestige of the competition among modern students is growing every year, since the intellectual competition aims not only to test knowledge gained, but also to popularize the name of the great Kobzar, to motivate his contemporaries to new, unconventional reading of the works of a prominent Ukrainian.

Taras Shevchenko International Language and Literature Competition for Pupils and Students was established to honor the creative heritage of Taras Shevchenko, identify creatively gifted youth, develop their intellectual potential, educate the younger generation to respect the language and traditions of their people and increase the level of language education in Ukraine.

Earlier, students and lecturers of Poltava Polytechnic wrote the XXI Radio Dictation of National Unity and discussed the problems of modern terminology in the Ukrainian language.
