The competition of the XIII open New Year's regional chess tournament for prizes and the cup of the Head of the Poltava Regional State Administration has solemnly ended. The participants were schoolchildren of Poltava schools, students of higher education institutions of the town, amateurs of this intellectual sport and already experienced players. The competition was held in three stages from December 1 to December 7 within the precincts of the Faculty of Physical Culture and Sports of the National University ''Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic''.
"We are extremely pleased to congratulate our dear athletes who trained conscientiously, honed their chess skills and went to the desired victory. Thanks to your zeal and sports enthusiasm, there were fierce confrontations at the chessboard throughout the tournament. It was interesting to watch the emotions, joyful gleam in the eyes and self-confidence. We wish you further victiries, sports inspiration and successful chess games!" – congratulated the Dean of the Faculty of Physical Culture and Sports of the National University ''Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic'', Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor Lina Rybalko.
President of the Poltava Regional Chess Federation, Chief Arbiter of the competition Hryhorii Shcherbov noted the comfortable conditions, the high level of the regional chess tournament and thanked the athletes for their thirst to win and demonstration of a beautiful game.
"It is worth noting that the geography of tournaments is expanding, we are joined by athletes not only from Poltava region, but also more and more students of general secondary education institutions of our town are joining us. Experienced players from Karlivka, Kharkiv, Myrhorod and Lviv regions met at the chessboard. We would like to thank everyone for their active participation, and the results shown today will be included in the national and international ranking of players," – said the President of the Poltava Regional Chess Federation.
The winners of the XIII open New Year's regional chess tournament for prizes and the cup of the Head of the Poltava Regional State Administration became:
І place – Serhii Naboka;
ІІ place – Mykola Yurchyshyn;
ІІІ place – Leonid Havrysh
The best players among girls were Aniuta Hrechishyna, and among boys – Murad Babaiev. Illia Nahornyi won among juniors.
The best among veterans were players Viktor Bardar and Volodymyr Sushko.
It should be recalled that the XIII open New Year's regional chess tournament for prizes and the cup of the Head of the Poltava Regional State Administration took place with the full support and assistance of the Department of Youth and Sports of the Poltava Regional State Administration. The chess tournament was sponsored by "Endevour" company, which has chosen to support and promote chess as part of its corporate and social responsibility.
Earlier, the winners of the Poltava Gymnasiade in normal chess were awarded at Poltava Polytechnic.
