The department's faculty members prepare students to solve real-world practical production and management problems by building computer and mathematical models, selecting or creating a method for solving them, developing an algorithm, software implementation, researching and testing the results.
The skills of mathematical modelling, classification of problems of different levels of complexity and selection of numerical solution methods are provided by a thorough fundamental theoretical training. Practical skills are provided by a wide range of disciplines related to information technology and algorithmicizing.
