History of Department of Architecture of Building and Design

Since 1966, the Poltava Civil Engineering Institute (now the National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic") began training students in the specialty "Architecture", specialization "Urban Planning".

In 1992, the Poltava Civil Engineering Institute opened the specialty "Artistic design of architectural urban, rural and park ensembles" (architectural environment design). In 1993, the first recruitment for this specialty was carried out, which was the first overall in Ukraine.

In April 1990, by dividing the department of architectural design into two, a new department of the basics of architecture and fine arts was created to provide basic training for students of 1st – 3rd years. Vasyl Liakh, Candidate of Architecture (Ph.D.), Associate Professor, was elected head of the new department.

In August 1994, two graduation departments were created on the basis of the Department of Fundamentals of Architecture and Fine Arts: the Department of Fundamentals of Architecture and the Department of Architectural Environment Design and Fine Arts. Vasyl Liakh, Candidate of Architecture (Ph.D.), Associate Professor and Volodymyr Hubar, Candidate of Architecture (Ph.D.), Associate Professor, respectively were appointed acting head of the departments.

In the same 1994, during the accreditation of the Poltava Civil Engineering Institute, specialty 2902, whose students studied in the 2nd year, was licensed to the III level with a licensed volume of 20 people, and the specialty was named " Design of Architectural Environment".

During the preparation of specialty 7.120.101 "Architecture of Buildings and Structures" for IV level accreditation in 1994, the Department of Fundamentals of Architecture was named the Department of Architecture of Residential and Public Buildings. IV level of accreditation of this specialty was confirmed by the department in 1999 and 2004.

In 1998, based on the needs of the region, the requirements of the time and the status of the state technical university, a partial structural reorganization of the existing departments was carried out: on the basis of the department of architectural environment design and fine arts, two separate departments were created Departments - the Department of Architectural Environment Design and the Department of Fine Arts, which correspond to the directions of training specialists in the specialties "Architectural Environment Design" and "Fine Art".

From 2001 to 2006, the Department of Architectural Environment Design was headed by Candidate of Architecture (Ph.D.), Associate Professor Volodymyr Toporkov. In 2002, the specialty "Design of Architectural Environment" was accredited to the III level and a license was opened for the preparation of masters of architecture. In the spring of 2004, there was a successful accreditation of IV level training of specialists in the specialty.

In 2007, a partial reorganization of the faculty was carried out and the Department of Design of Architectural Environment and Urban Planning was created, which trained specialists in two specialties: "Design of Architectural Environment" and "Urban Planning". At that time, the department was headed by Doctor of Architecture (Sc.D.), Professor Volodymyr Nikolaienko.

In 2014, the urban planning section was separated from the Department of Architectural Environment Design and Urban Planning, and during the reorganization, the department received the name: "Department of Architectural Environment Design". From 2015 to 2016, the staff of the department was headed by Doctor of Architecture, Professor Halyna Osychenko. In September 2016, the department was headed by Candidate of Architecture (Ph.D.), Associate Professor Volodymyr Toporkov.

In 2014, the Department of Architecture of Buildings and Urban Planning was created by merging the Department of Architecture of Residential and Public Buildings with the urban planning section of the Department of Architectural Environment Design and Urban Planning. The department was headed by Doctor of Architecture (Sc.D.), Professor Volodymyr Nikolaienko.

In 2019, the department of building architecture and urban planning merged with the department of architectural environment design. The department was headed by Doctor of Architecture (Sc.D.), Professor Volodymyr Nikolaienko.

From January 1, 2021, the department of building architecture and urban planning was divided into two departments: the Department of Architecture of Buildings and Design, which was headed by the Doctor of Architecture (Sc.D.), Professor Volodymyr Nikolaienko and the Department of Urban Planning and Architecture, which was headed by the Doctor of Architecture (Sc.D.), Professor Vadym Vadimov.
