History of the department of Germanic Philology and Translation

The Department of Germanic Philology and Translation was established as a separate structural unit in 2019, after the Department of Foreign Philology and Translation was split. In general, the two philological departments of the Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy - the Department of Germanic Philology and Translation and the Department of General Linguistics and Foreign Languages - trace their origins back to the Department of Foreign Languages, which was established as an independent unit at the Poltava Institute of Agricultural Construction in 1954. But foreign languages have been taught at the university not only since the first days of its foundation in 1930, but also since the days of the Institute of Noble Maidens, whose successor Poltava Polytechnic can rightfully be considered.

The first head of the Department of Foreign Languages was Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences Kyrylo Aleksaniants. In the following years, the department was headed by senior lecturers: Kasian E.I., Valuiev V.P., Pimenova T.H.; Candidates of Philology/Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professors: Simachevska Zh.M., Pavlenko V.M., Perli V.P., Vorobiev V.T., Belenkov M.F., Demchenko N.O.

Since 2019, the department has been headed by Candidate of Philology, Associate Professor Oksana Vorobiova.

Over the years, the department has managed to develop its own teaching style, skillfully combining traditional and modern teaching methods.

The department's members actively cooperate with leading educational and cultural institutions, industry partners, professional/public associations (British Council, Peace Corps, Goethe Institute, Poltava Society of Germans "Wiedergeburt", LLC "NTP "Burova Technika", LLC "Engineering Center "Poltava", All-Ukrainian Union of Translation Teachers, Association of Ukrainian Germanists, etc.
