History of the department of Germanic Philology and Translation

As a separate structural unit the Department of Germanic Philology and Translation was created in 2019 on the basis of the Department of Foreign Philology and Translation, which, in turn, was reorganized from the Department of Foreign Languages, which existed in PoltNTU since 1954.

The first head of the Department of Foreign Languages was PhD in Pedagogics Aleksaniants Kyrylo Arkadiievych. In subsequent years the Department was headed by senior lecturers: Kasian Ye.I., Valuiev V.P., Pimenova T.H.; PhD in Pedagogics and Philology, associate professors: Simachevska Zh.M., Pavlenko V.M., Perli V.P., Vorobiov V.T., Belenkov M.F., Demchenko N.O. Since 1952 for quite a long period of time the German language was taught at the Department of Foreign Languages by the graduate of Kharkov Institute of Foreign Languages, the legendary intelligence agent of World War II, Yevdokiia Kasian.

The Department of Foreign Philology and Translation in different years was headed by PhD in Pedagogics, associate professor Strilets V.V., PhD in Philology, associate professor Hrinchenko N.O., PhD in Philology, associate professor Bolotnikova, A.P.

The newly created Department of Germanic Philology and Translation is to preserve, deepen and diversify achievements, obtained for the previous years by the Department of Foreign Languages and the Department of Foreign Philology and Translation, aimed at ensuring a high level of teaching foreign languages and translation.

The present life of the Department demonstrates a combination of traditions with the latest educational technologies. Scientific and pedagogical staff, using their long-term experience, put into practice innovative methods of teaching foreign languages and translation, the main principles of which being aimed at achieving conformity of foreign language and translation training to the standards of European university education, as well as enhancing the positive image of the university within the framework of national and world educational space.
