Areas of research. The scientists of the department conduct research in a wide range of contemporary problems of philology and pedagogics:
- theory and methodology of teaching foreign languages;
- translation studies and methods of teaching translation;
- typological and comparative linguistics;
- discourse studies;
- general pedagogics;
- literary studies.
Scientific staff potential. Today at the department 2 scientific-pedagogical workers have a Doctoral degree (in Philology), 5 – a Ph.D. (in Philology and Pedagogics), two teachers are working on their dissertation theses.
Scientific publications. The results of the research of the Department’s teachers are reflected in scientific and methodological publications, which can be found at the university repository.
Scientific and technical events. The participation of lecturers in international conferences and their involvement in international scientific publications has significantly increased. For example, the teachers of the department participated in scientific and technical events in higher educational establishments and scientific institutions of both Ukraine and such foreign countries as Belgium, Bulgaria, South Africa, Poland, Czech Republic and Sweden.
Since 2013, the Department held All-Ukrainian Scientific-Practical Conference "Innovative Technologies in the Context of Foreign Language Specialist Training", since 2018 – has been holding the International Scientific-Practical Conference "Innovative Technologies in the Context of Foreign Language Specialist Training".
Within the framework of the scientific and methodical laboratory “Center of Foreign Languages”, the following academic services are provided: scientific and advisory assistance to scientific and pedagogical staff, graduate students, students of the University for their adaptation to the constantly changing modern educational processes in the sphere of international cooperation, namely participation in international scientific cooperation projects and programs, conducting scientific research and reporting their results in foreign publications included in scientometric databases and carrying out educational process in foreign languages and its scientific and methodological support.
Research activity of students. Not only are university students able to receive high-quality practical and theoretical training in the disciplines taught by scientific-pedagogical staff of the department, but also to master the skills of conducting research work by participating in scientific conferences of different levels and publishing their research papers. Under the guidance of the department's lecturers, the students prepared reports, which were presented at scientific and practical conferences, and the results of student studies were published in the abstracts of conference reports.
