Thanks to modern material and technical support, a high-class scientific laboratory base, scientists of the Poltava Polytechnic have a unique opportunity to actively work on joint research projects with experienced specialists in the oil and gas industry, to communicate professionally and exchange practical experience and developments with scientists and practitioners from different parts of our country.

Within the framework of the agreement on educational and scientific-technical cooperation between the National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic" and the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Academician of the Ukrainian Oil and Gas Academy, Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Drilling and Geology Oleksandr Lukin works effectively on important research papers to find effective methods of hydrocarbon detection and solve complex geological problems and willingly shares his experience with future oil and gas geologists. The experienced speaker, lecturer of geological disciplines held an online meeting with the teachers of the Department of Drilling and Geology, students of the specialty 103 "Earth Sciences" (Geology of Oil and Gas) of the Poltava Polytechnic and the Poltava College of Oil and Gas of the National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic". The scientist gave an open lecture "Direct prospecting for oil and gas: causes of failures and ways to increase efficiency", during which students and scientists discussed ways to increase the efficiency of natural gas and oil exploration, analyzed the reasons for unsuccessful geological attempts.

Academician Oleksandr Lukin began his report on the assessment of hydrocarbon resources in Ukraine, characterized the existing problems of the oil and gas industry in Ukraine: "... we can estimate oil and gas resources as practically inexhaustible!". The lecturer emphasized that the data are very optimistic and give Ukrainians reason to believe that the end of the hydrocarbon era is not expected in the near future. This is due to the prospects of significant depths (7-10 km) and the development of unconventional deposits, etc.

Hydrocarbon prospecting and exploration requires detailed research of various types, although they began with the so-called "oil trail" – the release of hydrocarbons to the surface, which made it possible to find most deposits of the 19th century. Already in the early 20th century, there were methods for searching for geophysical and geochemical anomalies, which are only being improved every decade.

"It is necessary to increase the accuracy of the assessment of promising objects by applying direct searches – analysis of anomalies," – commented Oleksandr Lukin on ways to solve the existing problem.

The participants of the lecture did not ignore the ecological component of hydrocarbon production and discussed the existing environmental risks, in particular, Oleksandr Yukhymovych assured that with the development of deep horizons, detailed geological exploration and the application of modern extraction technologies, these risks will be minimal.

The students majoring in 103 "Earth Sciences" specialty of the Poltava Polytechnic listened to the lecturer with interest because his vast experience and ability to talk about the main things in the field left no one indifferent. The online format did not prevent the establishment of a constructive dialogue and fruitful communication, during which the students received comprehensive answers to their questions.

The range of large-scale scientific events for the exchange of practical experience and joint implementation of applied scientific research is expanding significantly on the basis of the Educational and Research Institute of Oil and Gas.

Lectures from the best oil and gas industry professionals will continue throughout the academic year. During quarantine restrictions, they take place in an online format.

Earlier, a foreign professor shared professional cases of digital modeling of oil and gas deposits, a scientist of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine spoke about the prospects of Ukrainian gold mining, and the head of the Ukrainian Geological Survey presented new opportunities for young specialists.
