Architecture students become finalists in the national competition “Steel Freedom 2022”

On December 3, the final of the largest architectural student competition “Steel Freedom 2022” took place in the capital. The competition project for the reconstruction of a sports school in Irpin, executed by students-architects of the Poltava Polytechnic, was included in the TOP-10 best projects of this year’s competition and the team was invited to a live presentation.

Within the framework of the National Architectural Student Competition “Steel Freedom 2022”, students from 14 leading Ukrainian universities developed and presented 89 projects for the reconstruction of a sports school in the city of Irpin using metal bearing and fencing structures. In the final part, only 10 teams were invited to present their projects in front of leading architects along with experts in the field of design and development of Ukraine, who determined the winners of the competition.

National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” was represented at the competition by two student teams – I-286 and I-554.

The jury of the competition evaluated the projects according to the following criteria: urban planning solutions of the design site general plan, architectural form and appearance, architectural and planning solutions, design of the architectural environment elements and the use of supporting structures, modernity of the solution, functionality, steel supporting structures of the frame, graphic design of materials.

The project of the I-286 team consisting of a student of group 501-AD Anna Mykhailova, a student of group 401-A Polina Ostapenko, and student of group 401-A Mykyta Vzheshnevskyi entered the TOP-10 best competition projects, and the team became a finalist.

“I thank the organizers of the Steel Freedom competition for the celebration of architecture in metal, which we had the opportunity to participate in. For future professionals, taking part in such a grandiose competition is an additional opportunity to put into practice the knowledge gained in university classrooms, to work on reconstruction projects of Ukraine,” – commented the curator of the team, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Construction and Civil Engineering of the ERI of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Land Management Pavlo Semko.

Another project was created by the I-554 team, in which students of two specialties worked together: future architects and builders under the supervision of the project curator – a senior lecturer at the Department of Urban Planning and Architecture of the university, a member of the National Union of Architects of Ukraine Pavlo Vasyliev. The team reached the semi-finals.

Students of the Educational and Research Institute of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Land Management of the Poltava Polytechnic worked on the project – Maryna Khomenko (group 401-A), Vladyslava Mytsyk (group 401-A), Mariia Yakunenko (group 401-A), Artem Boiko (group 401-BP ) and Ernest Khimich (group 401-BP).

The organizer of the National Architectural Student Competition “Steel Freedom 2022” is the Association “Ukrainian Center of Steel Construction”, whose task is to promote steel as the best material in the construction and reconstruction of real estate.

The general partner of the “Steel Freedom 2022” competition is the Metinvest Group, among the official partners are also Metipol, Tekla, SketchUp, LIRALAND, BIM solutions, GRAPHISOFT Center Ukraine.

The competition is supported by the National Union of Architects of Ukraine.

It should be recalled that the online presentation of the Steel Freedom national architectural competition took place at the Polytechnic.

Earlier, architecture students presented the concept of a bicycle route to connect two Poltava parks.
