The coordinator of the Ukrainian office of the Italian humanitarian organization INTERSOS Marie Carmen Emmerich visited the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”. Rector of the university, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor Volodymyr Onyshchenko discussed the system of support for IDPs, which the university has established, and moderated the meeting with the volunteer center of the Polytechnic.

INTERSOS is just starting its work in Ukraine from the settlements that have become rear cities since February 24, where the flows of internally displaced persons were directed, and where a large number of them are still located: Lviv, Vinnytsia, Poltava, Odesa, Dnipro.

The organization has experience of working in regions of emergency situations, providing assistance to victims of armed conflicts, natural disasters and extreme situations with special attention to the protection of the most vulnerable population groups. Since 1992, their humanitarian workers have been helping people affected by humanitarian crises by providing first aid, food, shelter, medical care and basic necessities.

“Ms. Emmerich was pleasantly surprised by the conditions created at the Polytechnic for employees, students and forced migrants, the level of international activity, and offered to start cooperation with the aim of effectively providing humanitarian aid and spreading our experience. INTERSOS prioritizes meeting people's basic needs such as education, access to clean water and healthcare. The organization also creates jobs and needs specialists trained by our university – from financiers and translators to civil engineers. Thank you to the caring friends of Ukraine!” – commented Rector Volodymyr Onyshchenko.

Earlier, the volunteer headquarters of the Polytechnic received humanitarian aid from Germany, the activists of IDPs living on the campus of the Poltava Polytechnic, and Poltava Mayor Oleksandr Mamai thanked the team of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” for their help and creating comfortable living conditions for internally displaced persons, and student volunteers handed over humanitarian aid from the Poznan University of Technology.

It should be recalled that a new academic year has begun at the university.
