On the World Environment Day celebrated on June, 5, the students and academic staff of the university joined the OlympicLab project with the Olympic Ecomodule and held the Eco-Fitness Day under the charge of the Dean of the Faculty of Sports Nataliia Beseda.
The event will become traditional; from 2020, the Department of Sports has established the regional project called Eco-Fitness Day for the World Environment Day within the all-Ukrainian project of National Olympic Committee of Ukraine and with the support of the Students’ Sport Association of Ukraine (the Head of its Poltava Regional Division is the Rector of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, Professor Volodymyr Onyshchenko), as the Head of the Department of Sports, PhD in Pedagogy, Assistant Professor Lina Rybalko announced.
“The idea of the project is the popularization of healthy lifestyle and physical activities as its necessary component in terms of ecologically clean environment. The student youth has to understand the dependence of physical health on ecology and as a result has to care about the environment. By combining the physical activity with eco-activism, and following the anti-epidemic measures, the participants of the Eco-Fitness Day clean the territory of research station around Taras’s Oak, a natural, historical and cultural monument, from litter. At the end, we did energetic exercises,” Dean Nataliia Beseda said.
Larysa Onishchuk, PhD in Pedagogy, Associate Professor of the Department of Sports, Honored Culture Worker of Ukraine held an excursion around the monument territory with an interesting story about the oak planted in 1861 on the occasion of Taras Shevchenko’s reburial.
OlympicLab is held for the fifth time in a row in all the regions of Ukraine. Last year, it included Olympic Ecomodule realized by the regional divisions of National Olympic Committee of Ukraine with the participation of forest managers, ecologists, Olympic athletes, volunteers, who discussed the problems of environment protection, fire fighting, flood control, deforestation, water and air pollution and so on with the youth.
The educational project encourages wide ranges of people to participate in ecological activities, and the events are held with all the lockdown measures. They can include both practical component and educational lectures, which are held online.
