Today, during the briefing, the admission model was presented, which will make it possible to ensure the organization and conduct of the admission campaign in 2023.
As Serhii Shkarlet noted, this is a joint effort of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Education, Science and Innovation of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Center for Educational Quality Assessment, as well as active representatives of parent and educational communities.
To enter the bachelor’s (master’s – for medicine) level of higher education this year, applicants will need to pass the national multi-subject test (NMT). Last year, entrants were asked to take only compulsory subjects. This year, the assessment tool has been refined.
The NMT will contain three blocks of tasks, two of which are compulsory, and the third is optional for the entrant. Compulsory subjects are the Ukrainian language and mathematics, and optional subjects include history of Ukraine, one of the foreign languages (English, German, French, or Spanish), biology, chemistry, and physics. The optional subject for which the entrant would like to take the test will be specified during the registration for participation in the NMT.
For security reasons, the following decision was made: NMT will be held on one day. Testing will last 180 minutes, therefore, 60 minutes are allotted for each block. Note that the participants will be able to allocate their time independently, so those of them who complete tasks in the Ukrainian language or mathematics faster will be able to work longer on the block from the discipline of their choice.
After completing all NMT tasks, each participant will receive information about the number of test points for each block. For competitive selection, the results of each block will be used, converted into a scale of 100–200 points. The Ministry of Education and Science will approve the conversion tables in advance. Therefore, immediately after the test, the participant will know not only the number of test points scored by him/her, but also find out what his/her results are for admission. For all specialties, coefficients will be set for the results of each NMT block. Information about the values of these coefficients will be contained in the Procedure for admission to higher education in 2023. This document will be approved shortly. To obtain a result on a scale of 100–200 points, you need to score at least 10% of the total number of test points from each NMT block.
Registration for participation in the assessment will take place in April 2023. The Ukrainian Center for Educational Quality Assessment will provide paperless registration. Entrants will be able to use a special service on the website of this institution. All stages of registration will be described in detail on the website of the Ukrainian Center for Educational Quality Assessment.
Currently, two NMT sessions are planned: main and additional. The main one will be held in June 2023, the additional one will be held in June – July 2023. Those entrants who, for valid reasons, did not pass the test during the main session will be able to take part in the additional testing session.
As last year, the NMT will take place in specially equipped computer classrooms of educational institutions – temporary examination centres (TEC) created in populated areas both in Ukraine and abroad. We will inform you about the countries in which the assessment will take place later. The enemy continues to attack our cities, so, like last year, testing will be suspended during air raid alerts and will continue only after the participants and TEC workers return from shelters.
Participants will be able to independently choose the third subject of NMT. It will be universal, that is, the applicant will be able to enter any specialty with the subject s/he has chosen. However, for admission to different specialties, different coefficients will be applied to the NMT results. If an applicant enters the legal field of study, the result from the history of Ukraine will have more weight than from biology, and the opposite will be true for the medical field.
In the testing of the history of Ukraine in 2023, participants will work with tasks related to the events of the second half of the XVIth – the beginning of the XXIst centuries.
In foreign language testing, there will be no open-ended questions, just as there will be no listening questions. Incidentally, we note: the Ukrainian Center for Educational Quality Assessment is developing a test platform, so similar tasks will definitely become available on it in the future.
As last year, applicants will be able to use reference materials when working with math tests.
The Ukrainian Center for Educational Quality Assessment will prepare demonstration versions of all NMT blocks no later than May 2023, so participants will be able to familiarize themselves with the testing format and practice completing the tasks.
Instead of the 2023 NMT results, entrants can use the 2022 NMT results or the 2021 or 2020 ZNO results.
Pay attention! This year, those who have completed general secondary education will not take the final state certification.
All entrants to a master’s degree based on a bachelor’s degree will take the Unified Entrance Examination (UEE/EVI), which will contain two blocks – a test of general educational competence (TGEC/TZNK) and a test of a foreign language (English, German, French, Spanish). Also, for admission to specialties 05 Social and Behavioral Sciences, 06 Journalism, 07 Management and Administration, 08 Law, 28 Public Management and Governance, 29 International Relations, it will be necessary to pass the Unified Professional Entrance Examination (UPEE/EFVV).
