The University Week of Faculty of Humanities of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” started with an intercontinental video-conference bridge held with the international partners of Poltava Polytechnic, Santa Fe College (USA). Representatives of University of Sao Paulo (Brazil) and Cairo University (Egypt) also joined the event.
On November 24, the teachers of General Linguistics and Foreign Languages Department, headed by PhD in Philology, Associate Professor, Head of the Department Alla Bolotnikova, presented their important scientific and creative achievements. The guest of the meeting online learned the history, the methodology, the scientific, educational and international activities of the department, its connections with schools, lyceums, colleges of our city and region. The most relevant advantage of this department was that it allowed students to learn several foreign languages, take part in joined projects with international partners, go to academic exchanges abroad, participate in summer language schools, cooperate with schools of Poltava.
PhD in Philology, Associate Professor Svitlana Halaur held a workshop titled “Writing correctly and in a modern way”, during which the students of newly opened specialization “Secondary Education (English and a second foreign language)”, group 101HO, discussed the problem of using English words in the modern Ukrainian language, and gave practical advice on how to spell words borrowed from English in Ukrainian texts.
During the round table dedicated to the International Day of Tolerance, Ukrainian and German scientists and students discussed their views on modern social problems.
The presentation of the Ukrainian Studies, Culture and Documentation Department of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” started with creative congratulations from the students of specialization No. 029 “Information, Library and Archive Activity” to the 90th anniversary of Poltava Polytechnic and the 30th anniversary of the Department.
The largest event of the University Week was the jubilee V All-Ukrainian Conference “Documentation and Information Communications in Terms of Globalization: Problems and Prospects”.
The day of Ukrainian Studies, Culture and Documentation Department was finished with a presentation of the achievements of the department over the last 30 years, delivered by Doctor of History, Professor, Head of the Department Iryna Perederii. The speaker emphasized the importance of the founder and the first head of the department, PhD in History, Associate Professor, Honored Education Worker of Ukraine Nadiia Kocherha, the author of a range of university’s traditions. A great attention was paid to the achievements in educational, scientific, methodological, international activity of the department, thanks to which it takes a very important place among other subdivisions of our university, developing the humanitarian part of our higher education institutions in 1990s-2000s, and leading to the formation of Faculty of Humanities in 2012.
Students of specialization No. 035 Philology joined the marathon of congratulations to the 90th anniversary of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” and made videos in which they thanked their Alma Mater in different languages. And the most creative students led by PhD in Philology, Associate Professor of Germanic Philology and Translation Department Olena Dmytrenko presented a tour around Poltava in the German language, in which they showed National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” as an educational pearl of our city.
During the presentation of Germanic Philology and Translation Department, PhD in Philology, Associate Professor, Head of the Department Oksana Vorobiova shared the achievements of the department, which included high-quality training of philology and translation specialists, high-qualified academic staff who constantly work on self-development, powerful facilities, national and international academic mobility, native speakers joining the teaching process, as well as experts with practical experience of working in the translation and interpretation fields, and determined the strategic goals and prospects of the department’s development.
Within the University Week of Faculty of Humanities, Doctor of Philology, Professor of Germanic Philology and Translation Department of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University and Professor of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” Liliia Bezuhla delivered an open lecture, during which she presented the results of her scientific research.
The scientific colloquium for philology students held by Honorary Professor of Oil and Gas Engineering and Technologies Department of Poltava Polytechnic Branimir Cvetkovic was a fascinating part of the week. The scientists shared the basics of oil and gas theory to philology students, so that they understand the field better.
The technical translation topic was extended by Chief of Technical Translation Department of NTP Burova Tekhnika LLC Yanina Bazalii during her workshop that combined technical terms and other kinds of translation and proved that technical translation can be interesting and unusual.
The members of the Scientific Club “Philology” held by PhD in Philology, Associate Professor of Germanic Philology and Translation Department Anna Pavelieva discussed an the translation of idioms in Mykola Hohol’s works. Students analyzed the collected examples and offered their own ways of translating the idioms and realia.
An important part of the week was the fruitful discussion of the languages clubs. The speaker of the English club was Alex Purcell, students of University St. Andrews, and the speaker of German club was Norbert Muller, a long-term partner of our university.
Graduate students and PhD in Philology, Associate Professor, Head of the Department Oksana Vorobiova held a quiz in English titled “The world of Poltava Polytechnic” for students of Poltava schools. And the scientific club “Philology” (headed by PhD in Philology, Associate Professor of Germanic Philology and Translation Department Anna Pavelieva) held a round table dedicated to Thanksgiving Day.
The closing event of the Faculty of Humanities Week was the performance of the theatre studio of Faculty of Humanities, led by PhD in Philology, Associate Professor of Ukrainian Studies, Culture and Documentation Department Liudmyla Cherednyk. During this performance titled “The Autumn Kaleidoscope” the students-participants of the studio read poetry in various languages and different types of love.
