On the occasion of the 90th anniversary of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” and within the University Weeks, the academic staff of Faculty of Humanities initiated and held a video-conference ‘friendship bridge’ with international partners. The list of participants included teachers and students of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, teachers of Santa Fe College (USA), University of Sao Paulo (Brazil), Cairo University (Egypt), University of St. Andrews (UK), and visiting professor from Norway Branimir Cvetkovic.
The event was opened by Rector of our university, Professor Volodymyr Onyshchenko, who mentioned the importance of the international connections, the relevancy of cooperation for the enhancement of academic and cultural contacts in the complicated circumstances of today.
“The online format of events gives endless opportunities! A new university week dedicated to the youngest subdivisions of our university has started, so now we are talking about Faculty of Humanities and Faculty of Sports. Faculty of Humanities has held an international discussion! It has already become a good tradition to organize and hold joined events with our partner Santa Fe College (USA) represented by Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Vilma Fuentes. Our new partner, University of Sao Paulo from Brazil, was represented on the event by Professor Regiani Aprecida. Students and teachers of Cairo University (Egypt) also joined the event.
“The participants gathered to listen to the open lecture by Professor of Santa Fe College Dustin Fridkin titled “Explaining Elections 2020”. Students of Poltava Polytechnic could talk with the specialists of political science. We established a faculty visiting program, in accordance with which Prof. Dustin Fridkin will visit our university. We always pay a great attention to learning foreign languages, since one of the university’s priorities is high-quality language training for specialists.
“My daughter Anastasiia and I also joined the online discussion. It was a great opportunity to not only broaden our mindset, but also to improve our English! We’ve learned a lot of interesting information! The peculiarities of the American election system are very unusual for Ukrainians in many aspects. I am thankful to all the participants, partners, scientists and students for the wonderful event!” Rector, Professor Volodymyr Onyshchenko commented.
Regiani Aprecida, Professor of University of Sao Paulo, Brazil, mentioned the initiated cooperation of our higher education institutions and congratulated our university to its 90th anniversary.
The intercontinental meeting proceeded with the lecture of American Professor of Ukrainian origin, specialist in political science, participant of the academic exchange program established between Santa Fe College and National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” Dustin Fridkin, titled “Explaining Elections 2020”, which is a very relevant topic at the moment.
The participants started a lively discussion and were very interested in the issue. There were many question, and of course the discussion was held in English.
Prof. Dustin Fridkin will visit National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” next year. Students of various specializations will be able to listen to his lectures.
According to PhD in Pedagogy, Dean of Faculty of Humanities of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” Anna Ageicheva, the importance of this meeting is hard to overestimate, “Our university continues the activities for deepening the students’ knowledge about the politics with this scientific event. Holding large-scale international events with intercontinental partners has become a great tradition of our faculty thanks to the support of Rector of Poltava Polytechnic, Professor Volodymyr Onyshchenko.”
Vilma Fuentes, Vice Rector for Academic Affairs of Santa Fe College (USA) emphasized the main aspects of the scientific and educational cooperation between the Ukrainian and American higher education institutions, including joined events, which make for building creative potential and promoting scientific achievements.
“It was an honor to hear the congratulations to the 90th anniversary of our university from our partners. It was an additional motivation and it indicated that the university is moving towards innovative development! It is incredibly important to preserve the unity of the scientific society during the lockdown,” Volodymyr Onyshchenko added.
