During the meeting of the Academic Council of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, Dean of Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor Anna Aheicheva spoke about the effective work of language centres that successfully operate at Poltava Polytechnic, presented the results of their efficient work and shared the prospects of their dynamic development.
“It is worth noting that the Educational and Scientific Laboratory “Foreign Languages Centre” is successfully operating at Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy of Poltava Polytechnic, as well as the Department of General Linguistics and Foreign Languages together with the Department of Germanic Philology and Translation, whose academic staff ensures the effective work of the Foreign Languages Centre and helps to do a great job. We teach academic staff, undergraduate and postgraduate students of Polytechnic, and we are also contacted by many state and educational institutions of our city to improve the quality of their employees’ foreign language skills,” – shared the head of Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor Anna Aheicheva.
It should be noted that Foreign Languages Centre of Poltava Polytechnic is actively used for scientific seminars and consultations for academic staff, students and postgraduates, employees of the city’s organisations and institutions, language camps, and it is a platform for internships for students majoring in 014 Secondary Education at Poltava Polytechnic.
As part of the Foreign Language Centre’s activities, there were presentations of Pearson exams and tests, advanced training courses under the English for Specific Purposes programme for 60 employees of the North-Eastern Office of the State Audit Service in the Poltava Region, an intensive English course for the management and staff of the Main Department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Poltava Region (135 participants), a conversational English course for employees of the Local Roads Agency in Poltava Region, and annual language camps “Poltava Polytechnic Summer Language Camp” for city’s and region’s schoolchildren.
It is also worth paying attention to the creation of the “TranslationStudio” educational translation agency on the basis of the Foreign Languages Centre. Also, the teachers of the Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy are engaged in the quality preparation of students for the Unified Entrance Examination for the purpose of entering master’s and postgraduate studies; preparation courses have been running for many years.
A separate area of activity includes the development and approval of the University’s Multilingual Strategy as part of the project “Management of Internationalisation and Ukrainian-German Academic Cooperation” (based on the International Office of Leibniz University of Hannover).
It is worth noting that the multidisciplinary classical university pays considerable attention to foreign language learning, which is reflected in many initiatives and programmes aimed at developing the language skills of students, teachers and postgraduate students. Thanks to their excellent knowledge and language skills, scientists and students of Poltava Polytechnic participate in international exchanges, internships, and grant programmes at leading European partner universities.
National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” is the only university in the Poltava region with international language centres that inspire positively and create a unique atmosphere of the language it is dedicated to.
Each language centre has its own work plan and schedule of events, which inspires students of Poltava Polytechnic to learn languages in a safe and comfortable environment.
In addition, the Foreign Language Centre of Poltava Polytechnic organises summer camps, which promote practical language learning in an informal atmosphere.
It should be recalled that campers of GoCamp 2021 attended master classes at Polytechnic.
Earlier, future translators practised consecutive interpretation while travelling around the locations of Poltava Art Museum, lyceum students attended a simultaneous interpretation master class, and future teachers successfully improved their professional skills at Poltava City Multidisciplinary Lyceum No. 1 named after I. P. Kotliarevskyi.
