The first-year students of groups 101-FD and 101-FI of the Faculty of Philology, Pedagogy and Psychology of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, who are mastering modern professional competences in accordance with the study programmes “Documentation and Information Activity”, “Information Analytics and PR Activity”, together with Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of the Ukrainian Studies, Culture and Documentation Liudmyla Martyrosian, attended an interactive thematic lecture on the study and organisation of record management held at the State Archives of the Poltava Region.
The student youth of the multidisciplinary classical university was hospitably welcomed by the Director of the State Archives of the Poltava Region, Honoured Worker of Culture of Ukraine Valentyna Hudym, who held an exciting scientific and educational event for future specialists using modern interactive technologies.
In an extremely interesting, informative, productive and practically oriented atmosphere, Valentyna Volodymyrivna taught those receiving higher education the skills of applying knowledge in practice, the ability to plan and allocate time, work independently, make decisions, analyse, and compare the information received with other sources. During the conversation, the lecturer also provided young people with practical advice on how to develop research skills and the basic knowledge necessary for mastering academic disciplines.
It is worth mentioning that this thematic lecture was also the first acquaintance of first-year students with the activities of the State Archives of the Poltava Region, which caused positive emotions and stimulated the cognitive interest of Poltava Polytechnic students.
The students will have more than one such meeting ahead of them, as both educational programmes provide for practical and lecture classes in a number of disciplines, such as Archival Studies or Documentary and Information Communications. The future professionals will also have a unique opportunity to undergo library and archive practice at the main archival institution of the Poltava region.
According to the scientists of the Department of the Ukrainian Studies, Culture and Documentation of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, the necessity of studying the discipline “Records Management” by the students of the university is caused by the content of practical training in the field of information, librarianship and archiving activities of future employees, taking into account the need for highly qualified specialists with modern knowledge of the theory and skills of information documentation and work with documents.
The fruitful scientific and educational cooperation between the teachers and students of the Department of the Ukrainian Studies, Culture and Documentation of the Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy and the specialists of the State Archives of the Poltava Region as a leading stakeholder in the training of specialists in the speciality 029 Information, Librarianship and Archiving is a guarantee of a real opportunity for students to get acquainted with practical cases of high-level professionals when studying the cycle of professional training disciplines.
Earlier, documentalists successfully completed their internship at the State Archives of the Poltava Region, Polytechnic students participated in an international scientific and practical conference, presenting their research in the field of information activities, scientists and stakeholders discussed the peculiarities of training specialists in the speciality 029 Information, Librarianship and Archiving.
Recently, future translators practised consecutive interpretation during a tour of the Poltava Art Museum locations, and documentation students attended a practical lesson at the University’s Scientific and Technical Library.
