The Gender Centre of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, as a representative of the Coalition, made an update on its activities.

“Our Gender Centre was created by Poltava Polytechnic together with the Territorial Department of Judicial Protection Service in the Poltava Region and the Ukrainian Association of Women in Law Enforcement.

As our main tasks, we have identified raising the level of gender literacy of pedagogical staff of the Poltava region, creating a modern educational environment for further professional development and self-realisation of the educational process participants, creating the conditions for the equal rights and opportunities realisation regardless of gender and other features in accordance with the Law of Ukraine “On the Principles of Preventing and Combating Discrimination in Ukraine”, organising and conducting the first aid and fire training for pedagogical staff and students of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, overcoming the gender stereotypes of children and teenagers regarding the choice of the future profession, providing the opportunities for adaptation as well as professional and social development of the defenders and defendresses of Ukraine, who have returned from hostilities zone, IDPs. During the year, we held 230 events and reached more than four thousand people,” – noted the Head of Gender Centre of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” Olena Dubynka.

Deputy Director of the Department of Social Protection of the Population of the Poltava Regional State Administration Olena Panova briefly outlined the key points, gaps and activities of the Regional Plan for the implementation of the National Action Plan for the Implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security until 2025. In particular, when developing the local plan and identifying target groups, the data from the 2021 gender profile of Poltava Oblast was taken into account, which now needs to be updated to meet the needs of reintegration, social protection of veterans and internally displaced persons, as well as to address the tasks related to the implementation of the National Action Plan for the Implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security in the region. She also presented the main areas of the plan that can be strengthened and expanded more effectively through interaction and cooperation within the Coalition.

Taking into account the effectiveness of specialised services for combating and preventing violence in the region, such as shelters for victims, mobile psychosocial assistance teams, day centres with crisis rooms, a relevant working group will be formed within the relevant interagency coordinating council at the regional state administration to monitor the activities of these services.

“Given the experience of building coalitions in other regions that have successfully monitored the implementation of local action plans, assessed the needs of target groups and advocated for these needs to be taken into account in the National and Local Plans, as well as implemented communication campaigns and projects aimed at their implementation, we discussed current prospects for cooperation.

Also during the meeting, the main updates from the partners were presented, as the activities of our Coalition are only gaining momentum, so it is important to know which partner is closing which cases and where they have success stories.

Due to personnel and service changes and in accordance with the regulations, the Coalition was forced to elect a new secretary, namely Yuliia Malko, an expert and coach on gender-oriented governance. We congratulate everyone on a productive start and continue our active work,” – commented the Coordinator of the Coalition, member of the NGO “Bureau of Gender Strategies and Budgeting” Nataliia Shkodenko.

Head of the Investment and Project Management Department of the Executive Office of the Poltava Regional Council Olesia Drobotenko presented the possibilities of the Smart Region of the Poltava Region crowdfunding platform as a tool for raising resources for the implementation of projects on a cost-sharing basis.

The participants approved the preliminary draft of the Coalition’s Work Plan for 2024 – the proposed draft Plan does not duplicate the possible activities of the Coalition Parties within the framework of the Regional Action Plan for the implementation of the National Action Plan for the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security for the period up to 2025.
