On December 14, first and second academic year students of “Public Governance and Administration” and “Law” specialties of the Educational and Research Institute of Finance, Economics, Management and Law of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” became active participants in the quest “Quest Tour from school class to government offices”, during which they talked with staff, management and deputies of the Poltava Regional Council, got acquainted with the peculiarities of the activities of regional executive bodies and public administration, visited key working locations of the Poltava Regional Council. The event was held within the framework of the Memorandum on Cooperation and Partnership between National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” and Poltava Regional Council to acquaint student youth of Poltava region with the capabilities and resources of local self-governments, Poltava Regional Council and Poltava Regional State Administration. Well-established communication should help to overcome the problem of citizens’ lack of information about the system of local self-government, the work of regional executive bodies and also motivate ambitious young people to enter the civil service in order to improve the welfare of the Poltava region.
The busy day of acquaintance with the work of one of the key local self-government bodies was moderated by the Deputy Executive Director of the “Poltava Regional Association of Local Self-Government Bodies” (“PRALSGB”) Anna Kondratieva, who told in detail about the work of the leadership team of the Poltava Regional Council, focusing on the peculiarities of the activities of individual departments and presented broad professional, educational prospects for future graduates.
“This year we launched a series of practice-oriented quests to help guide young people, graduates of higher education institutions in a number of legal and socio-economic aspects, introduce the working days of the management and deputies of Poltava Regional Council and recreate many work situations in which we have to operate. Based on my own experience, I will say for sure – offered models of communication and dialogue between young people and regional authorities work successfully. We hope that youth will gain the necessary knowledge and skills that will be needed in their future professional life,” – commented Anna Kondratieva.
“Don’t wait for the end of your studies at the university; feel free to decide on your own professional future today! Perhaps, our meeting for some of you, young, enterprising, persistent ones, will be an incentive to think about the possibility of serving the native people at the local level. First of all, any activity aimed at establishing a dialogue between different sections of the executive power branch is experience, knowledge and acquaintances with new extraordinary personalities. I wish you life inspiration, successful realization of professional plans. The doors of Poltava Regional Council are always open to your ideas and initiatives!” – shared his experience, guidelines and professional secrets the First Deputy Chairman of the Poltava Regional Council Oleksandr Lemeshko, who urged the students of Poltava Polytechnic not to stop on the achieved and constantly update their knowledge.
The quest partakers visited the session hall of the Poltava Regional Council, as well as discussed the features of the activities and participation of deputies of the regional council in making important decisions.
Liliia Ruroieva, Deputy Chairman of the Poltava Regional Council, simulated the course of the plenary session. Simulating the working situation, students, lecturers and specialists talked in detail about all possible actions and procedures for holding sessional meetings, worked on offers for the distribution of budget funds and considered a variety of patterns of deputies’ and members’ of the public behavior. According to the students of Poltava Polytechnic, they felt somewhat unusual in these positions, and of particular interest were the tasks aimed at using the rules of current legislation as well as the distribution of budget funds by priority areas and areas of activity. Student Volodymyr Kushnir noted the high efficiency and practical orientation of this type of activity and is now looking forward to the next, no less productive, meetings.
Svitlana Hromtseva, Director of the municipal institution “Poltava Regional Youth Center”, presented practical cases and modern opportunities for the youth of Poltava and its region. The speaker presented the most effective social initiatives, the most popular youth public organizations and associations involved in volunteering, charitable activities and stressed on the wide opportunities for non-formal education, practical experience and trips to different parts of Ukraine.
“Establishing official channels of communication between modern youth and representatives of local self-government will be more effective if young people themselves are aware of such opportunities and are more willing to communicate at the local or state level. If such a connection is one-sided, how can the authorities find out about the prevailing youth trends and create conditions for the successful realization of young people? If you want to live in a comfortable town, have a good job and motivate others to make their dreams come true, then join the friendly team of the Poltava Regional Youth Center!” – invited all those present the head of the Poltava Regional Youth Center.
The meeting of future lawyers and public managers with the deputy of the Poltava regional council Serhii Bulbakha, who added some details to the portrait of the modern deputy, became a kind of “highlight” of the whole event. According to the deputy, the main components of a successful personality and a professional remain the willingness to always learn, be prepared for constructive criticism and do not rest on the laurels. Attendees talked in a “question-answer” format and received useful advice that will inspire future university graduates in the process of mastering quality education at the European level.
According to a senior lecturer at the Department of Public Governance, Administration and Law at the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” Halyna Trehubenko, the most powerful stimulus for the enterprising, persistent student youth of Poltava Polytechnic, future professionals in the field of jurisprudence and public administration, are such meetings that contribute to a deeper understanding of the chosen profession.
“During the period of study at the university, students will be able to clearly define their own professional orientations and acquire the necessary knowledge that will become basic in further personal growth. Jurisprudence and public administration are areas without which the needs of mankind and the observance of its rights will not be fully realized. Based on my own experience, I can say for sure – there is a lack of good professionals in the community and potential employers are willing to invest in quality higher education. It is gratifying that students and lecturers of our university can join such quests, motivational meetings and constructive dialogue between education and the government, which understands and responds to the problems and needs of modern youth,” – commented the scientist.
At the end of the meeting, students, lecturers and organizers of the quest from the Poltava Regional Council agreed on further scientific and educational cooperation in the field of on-the-job trainings, internships at the Poltava Regional Council and Poltava Regional State Administration.
Previously, a delegation of Poltava Polytechnic student self-government visited the Parliament, future specialists in the field of jurisprudence and public administration studied the experience of interaction between public and local self-governments of Ukraine and Poland, and future managers got acquainted with the work of the Interregional Department of National Agency of Ukraine for Civil Service (NADS) in Poltava and Kirovohrad regions.
