National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” is involved in the implementation of the innovative Ukrainian-British project English4Ukraine, which operates within the Twinning educational partnership initiative. Participation in the programme is aimed at strengthening partnerships between Ukrainian and British educational institutions and serves as an effective way to support the Ukrainian academic community and develop higher education in the long term.
The launch of the project became possible thanks to an example of academic partnership. In September 2024, during an official visit to Mariupol State University, an important cooperation agreement was signed and ratified by the then Rector Mykola Trofymenko. This academic collaboration, together with experience gained through cooperation with British partner universities within the Twinning initiative, was transformed into the powerful English4Ukraine initiative.
The project is being implemented with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine in cooperation with the British-Ukrainian project Twinning Ukraine, Cormack Consultancy Group, and Reallyenglish. Thanks to the personal contribution of Mykola Trofymenko and the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, this project has proven to be highly effective.
English4Ukraine is the Ukrainian version of the internationally recognised Reallyenglish platform, which has been used for more than 20 years by leading universities and companies worldwide. The joint project enables academic staff and students to conveniently and free of charge study English on a high-quality platform. It provides:
- access to 30 online courses for proficiency levels from A0 to C2, including general, business, academic and specialised English, as well as preparation for IELTS and TOEFL;
- flexible learning opportunities: the ability to study at one’s own pace using a computer or mobile phone;
- certification: users continue to receive certificates upon completion of courses;
- integration into the European educational space.
For Poltava Polytechnic, English language learning is one of the key priorities. Enhancing language competencies contributes to the internationalization of higher education and the active integration of the academic community into the European educational space. Strong English-language proficiency is a competitive advantage for academic staff and students, as well as a foundation for participation in international programs and academic mobility, the development of joint projects with foreign partners, and increasing the University’s global presence.
The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine actively encourages universities, colleges, vocational education institutions and local self-government bodies to take advantage of the opportunities offered by #English4Ukraine. To obtain free access to English4Ukraine, it is necessary to complete an online application form and choose the course that best meets individual needs.
English4Ukraine is a strategic step towards European integration that significantly enhances the international capacity of our academic community, opens up a wide range of opportunities for training a new generation of specialists with full English proficiency, contributes to improving the professional competitiveness of academic staff, and makes a substantial contribution to supporting and further developing Ukraine’s higher education sector.
