Teachers and students of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” and Poltava Oil and Gas College of Poltava Oil and Gas College held the traditional round table on the occasion of the International Mother Language Day. The round table discussion was opened by Associate Professor, Vice-Rector for Scientific and International Affairs of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, PhD Svitlana Sivitska and Associate Professor, Dean of Faculty of Humanities, PhD Anna Ageicheva.
“It is incredibly important to regularly talk about the existing dangers of certain languages dying out, and to improve the skills and knowledge of our native languages. National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” is an international university, in which we hear languages of more than thirty countries every day. It will be fascinating to listen about the traditions and languages of different countries, the native speakers of which are studying at our university. I wish you interesting presentations and fruitful discussions!” Vice-Rector Svitlana Sivitska said and greeted the participants of the event on behalf of Rector of our university, Professor Volodymyr Onyshchenko.
Doctor of History, Professor, Head of Ukrainian Studies, Culture and Documentation Department of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” Iryna Perederii spoke about the history of the international day and emphasized the importance of such annual meetings.
“The history of this day, as you know, is very tragic and is connected with the fight of the Bengali people for their right to use their mother language in Pakistan. Peaceful protest then were turned into shootings of protestants, during which five students were killed. The Bengali language was recognized the second state language of Pakistan in the end, and the world community started celebrating the International Mother Language Day on February, 21, in 2000 after UNESCO proclaimed the day in its resolution. Almost half of the 6,000 existing languages are endangered, because for a language to survive at least 100,000 people have to speak it. This international day was proclaimed in order to preserve different languages, which are the grounds for national cultures.
“The student family of National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” is an international community that consists of students from more than thirty countries who a native to different languages and traditions. We show our respect to all the languages of the world and our tolerance to their speakers with our today's event,” Iryna Perederii said.
Dean of Faculty of Humanities, Associate Professor, PhD Anna Ageicheva mentioned the high level of organization at the annual event to the International Mother Language Day held by the teachers of Ukrainian Studies, Culture and Documentation Department.
The event was moderated by Associate Professor of Ukrainian Studies, Culture and Documentation Department, PhD Liudmyla Cherednyk.
Students from Ghana, Zambia, Mauritania and Tunisia showed a great level of competence in the Ukrainian language. They prepared informative presentations about the culture of their home land with the support of the teachers of Ukrainian Studies, Culture and Documentation Department.
Student of group 202NH of Education and Research Institute of Oil and Gas Knii Sarkcess (Ghana - the Golden Coast of Africa, scientific advisor was Associate Professor, PhD Iryna Denysovets), student of group 302NH of Education and Research Institute of Oil and Gas Abdelahi Mohamed Lamine (Mysterious Mauritania, scientific advisor was Associate Professor, PhD Olha Mizyna) and student of group 302NH of Education and Research Institute of Oil and Gas Touatiti Moez (Tunisia - a Mediterranean Land, scientific advisor was Associate Professor of Ukrainian Studies, Culture and Documentation Department, PhD Olha Mizyna) delivered interesting speeches about their countries.
Zambia as a country of many mysteries was presented by student of group 202NH of Education and Research Institute of Oil and Gas Dominic Kamfwa, whose scientific advisor was Associate Professor of Ukrainian Studies, Culture and Documentation Department, Doctor of Pedagogy Oksana Tur.
A bright presentation titled “My Country is Ukraine” was delivered by student of group 201HD of Faculty of Humanities of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” Daria Andriiets (scientific advisor was Associate Professor, Dr. Oksana Tur).
Students of group 201 HF of Faculty of Humanities Kateryna Pochtakova and Yana Kharchenko spoke about the peculiarities of English in different countries and shared interesting facts about this language with the participants of the event. Senior Lecturer of Germanic Philology and Translation Department at National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” Kateryna Palii commented.
Students of group 201HD of Faculty of Humanities Mariia Serba and Anastasiia Yaryhina presented the results of their own research “What do foreigners think about the Ukrainian language?”. The students performed a lot of hard work using information technology under the supervision of Associate Professor of Ukrainian Studies, Culture and Documentation Department, Dr. Oksana Tur.
Student of group EN-2-1 of Poltava Oil and Gas College of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” Viktoriia Bova and student of group 201HD of Faculty of Humanities of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” Mariia Serba performed songs for the guests and participants of the round table.
Students of group D-3-1 Yuliia Kuzmych and Olena Maslivets and student of group EN-1-2 of Poltava Oil and Gas College Alona Shablia declaimed poetry about Ukraine. They were prepared by Head of the Cycle Committee for Information Technology of Poltava Oil and Gas College, Teacher Halyna Mykytenko.
Head of Ukrainian Studies, Culture and Documentation Department of National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic", Dr., Prof. Iryna Perederii was thankful to the participants of the event and their scientific advisors for the interesting presentations and performances, emphasizing the efforts that the teachers of the department put into improving the format of communication and organizing great events. “I am sure that our goal of promoting the formation of tolerant attitude towards different cultures and languages was successfully achieved. Thank you all for your presentations, love to your homeland and the good mood. Hope to see you soon!” Last year, the International Mother Language Day was celebrated with peculiarities of different countries.
Teachers of Ukrainian Studies, Culture and Documentation Department at National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” systematically hold scientific, educational and art events with Ukrainian and foreign students, including round tables on the occasion of the Day of Ukrainian Writing and Literature, various international days, as well as conferences on the issues of modern informational communications etc.
