New Horizons of Cooperation: Poltava Polytechnic to Implement Erasmus+ KA171 Project in Partnership with the University of Coimbra (Portugal)!

National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” is pleased to announce a significant milestone in the development of its international relations. Our university has succeeded in the project competition under the Erasmus+ Key Action 171 ICM program for 2026. This initiative has received official funding from the Portuguese National Agency for Erasmus+ and will be implemented under the coordination of our reliable partner, the University of Coimbra. This achievement is the result of systematic and consistent bilateral cooperation initiated in July 2024 with the signing of a bilateral Memorandum of Understanding.

It is a great honour for Poltava Polytechnic to develop its partnership with the University of Coimbra, the oldest higher education institution in Portugal and one of the oldest continuously operating scientific and educational centres in the world, founded in 1290. Its historic campus is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list, and its unique baroque Joanina Library is recognised as one of the most beautiful and richest in Europe. Our direct partner in this initiative is the Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra (established in 1972), which holds the prestigious international AMBA accreditation. The Faculty’s academic research, conducted at the Centre for Business and Economics Research, focuses on institutional policies of sustainable development, innovation, and social economy.

The joint work will focus on the field of “Economics”, which is of strategic importance to our country. The project entails close cooperation between the Educational and Scientific Institute of Finance, Economics, Management, and Law of Poltava Polytechnic and the Faculty of Economics of the Portuguese university. This partnership offers valuable opportunities for undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral (PhD) students, who can undertake a five-month study period in a single academic semester in Coimbra, mastering modern European approaches to financial management and sustainable development, with guaranteed credit transfer. Concurrently, academic and administrative staff will receive mobility grants for teaching and training to exchange experience, study European educational standards, and integrate best international practices into our curricula.

This cooperation holds special significance not only for the academic development of our university but also for Ukraine's future recovery. Aligning economic education with European standards will help prepare highly qualified specialists capable of working effectively on the financial and regional recovery of our state, developing economic stabilisation strategies, and facilitating Ukraine's genuine integration into European markets. In addition to establishing a “knowledge corridor” between Central Ukraine and Southern Europe, the project will implement the concept of “internationalisation at home”.

In the near future, the coordinators from both universities will begin negotiating specific mobility quotas, signing the inter-institutional agreement, and preparing conditions for a transparent and open competitive selection of candidates.

We encourage undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral students, as well as academic staff, to closely monitor updates on the official website and Poltava Polytechnic's social media pages to learn about the start of the application process promptly and take advantage of this excellent opportunity for professional and personal growth.

Winning the project competition of the Erasmus+ KA171 program and launching cooperation with the University of Coimbra is remarkably important news for our university's entire academic community, as this initiative opens new qualitative opportunities for professional growth, mastering advanced European practices in the field of economics and financial management for our undergraduate, postgraduate students, and academic staff, which will serve as a solid foundation for the future recovery and development of Ukraine.

We are sincerely grateful to our Portuguese colleagues for their high level of trust, support, and joint efforts at every stage of the project's preparation. On behalf of our team, I would like to express special gratitude to Raquel Sampaio (International Relations Officer) and Margarida Santos (the responsible person of the IR Office, Faculty of Economics of the UC), as well as to all other colleagues from the University of Coimbra, whose engagement and professionalism made this achievement possible.

I also express my deep gratitude to the President and the Rector of Poltava Polytechnic for their comprehensive assistance, trust in our international team, and constant support of initiatives that enable the university to develop, integrate into the European educational space, and create new perspectives for our youth and academic staff,” – says Anna Pavelieva, Poltava Polytechnic’s International Relations Coordinator.
