On September 5, the autumn running season started with a half marathon from Nova Poshta and New Run.
This year, professional athletes and connoisseurs of active sports from Poltava and other regions gathered on the square near the Poltava Regional State Administration. The half marathon distances in 2021 remained traditional – 21 km, 10 km, 5 km, 1 km, team 5 km, relay 21 km and children's 500 m and 100 m.
15 students of the Faculty of Physical Culture and Sports, including first-year students and lecturers of Poltava Polytechnic became volunteers of NOVA POSHTA HALF MARATHON 2021 and joined the promotion of a healthy lifestyle among modern youth and Poltava residents of all ages.
Students of the Faculty of Physical Culture and Sports also took part in the races. Student Yehor Pakhota (102-FS group) ran 10 km, student Anastasiia Ivanenko (301-FR group) – 5 km, athlete Kateryna Hrab (202- FS group) covered two distances – 5 km and 1 km.
According to the organizers, about 4,000 participants registered in total.
"For the seventh year in a row, Poltava is hosting a traditional half marathon in the first week of September. For the organizers, this is the 59th start among large and small races," – commented NewRun co-founder, marathon runner Maksym Kryvenko.
According to the doctor of pedagogical sciences, professor, acting Dean of the Faculty of Physical Culture and Sports of the National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic" Lina Rybalko, participation in such large-scale sporting events and scientific and educational events positively motivates present-day youth to active sports and physical activities. It is not the first time that students of Poltava Polytechnic become volunteers of the half marathon and promote a healthy lifestyle. In 2019, university students became volunteers for the project of a famous TV presenter and a large-scale half marathon.
It should be recalled that for the first time such competitions in Poltava took place on September 6, 2015. At that time, more than 700 participants from 43 population centres of Ukraine participated in the races. Artem Kazban (Dnipro) was the first to cross the finish line of the main distance of the half marathon.
2020 has somewhat changed everyone's life, but it did not prevent the organizers from holding races in a new format and getting the record of Ukraine "The most massive online marathon". Over the spring season of 2020, more than 5,000 participants covered the distances. Thanks to NewRun Timer's own division as part of the NewRun team, all participants received accurate results of covering any distance online.
The winner of the main distance in Poltava in 2021 was Vitalii Shafar (Poltava).
The relay race was picked up by Chernihiv and Zhytomyr (September 19 and 26, respectively). On October 3, the Nova Poshta half marathon will take place in Kyiv, on October 17 – in Vinnytsia, and the season will end with a big marathon in picturesque Lviv (November 7).
All participants of the race are awarded with medals of a new original design. Last year, the medal series "Nova Poshta Half Marathon Poltava 2020" was decorated with the portrait of Yuri Kondratyuk.
