Poltava artists continue to work on the cultural front, giving examples of theater art to forced migrants and Poltava residents, and the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” is one of the cultural and educational centers where such artistic events take place.

On July 19, on the main stage of the Poltava Polytechnic, the troupe of the Poltava Academic Regional Ukrainian Music and Drama Theater named after M.V. Gogol presented Ivan Karpenko-Karyi’s tragicomedy “Martyn Borulia” – a classic of Ukrainian drama, which has been staged in the theater since 1972. This season, young actors joined the theater, so six acting debuts took place during the performance.

The audience saw a Ukrainian performance with juicy folk humor, comedic situations, but deep morals.

The play tells the story of a wealthy peasant, Martyn Borulia, who wishes to receive the title of nobleman and live according to lordly customs. He hires a lawyer, exhausts himself with court proceedings, proving his noble origin with genealogical documents, spends a lot of money, and squanders capital. He is trying to transfer the family life to the aristocratic way. He wants to marry his daughter Marysia, who loves a simple guy Mykola, off to an official of the Zemstvo court in order to be related to a nobleman. But all his intentions end in defeat.

The audience gave the actors a standing ovation.

“We thank the Poltava Academic Regional Ukrainian Music and Drama Theater named after M.V. Gogol. Allow me, on behalf of the university management, on behalf of all grateful viewers, to thank you for these moments that you give us despite all the difficulties of today’s situation. We are sincerely grateful to you and are always glad to see you at the Poltava Polytechnic,” – thanked Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor Liudmyla Cherednyk.

Earlier, Gogol Theater actors showed the internally displaced children a Swedish fairy tale and presented the romantic tale “All Mice Love Cheese”, and the students treated the audience with goodies.
