Philology students complete a course on academic integrity

The head of the club, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Germanic Philology and Translation, Anna Pavelieva, and 63 members of the students’ scientific club “Philology”, students of 2-6 academic years of the specialty 035 “Philology”, successfully completed the online course “Academic integrity for teachers” at the largest educational platform of Ukraine Prometheus and received personal certificates with individual numbers. The authenticity of certificates can be checked by referring to them, since all issued certificates are entered in the register, which can be viewed by following the link.

During the mastering of this course, the head and participants of the students’ scientific club “Philology” learned about the theoretical aspects of academic integrity and the factors that directly affect the culture of academic integrity of higher education students as well as learned to apply theoretical knowledge in practice, students – in learning, the teacher – in teaching and scientific supervising.

“This course enables teachers to look at their disciplines more systematically, and specially designed practical tasks as well as interactive tools will help minimize the risks of academic integrity violations by students in their courses. I am also impressed by the declaration of academic integrity proposed by the lecturers of the course, which can be drawn up according to the presented template and used in scientific work with students (in particular, before starting work on course and master’s studies, articles and scientific reports, etc.). It was interesting to learn that Ukrainian legislation is considered quite progressive in matters of academic integrity, since there are few places in the world where entire articles of laws or even entire laws are devoted to this issue. At the same time, the issue of comprehensive implementation of academic integrity in Ukrainian higher education institutions remains problematic, as academic integrity is not only joint collective work, but also the personal responsibility of everyone. While studying this course, I learned a lot of new things for myself. My colleagues and I will definitely use the knowledge gained to update our educational program and work programs of academic disciplines in the future,” – comments the head of the club – Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Germanic Philology and Translation Anna Pavelieva.
