The Science Day is a professional holiday of all the scientists of Ukraine, founded in 1997 with the President Decree on the initiative of scientists, scientific organizations, professional unions of Ukraine, and is traditionally celebrated on the third Saturday of May.
As a tradition, the academic staff and the students of Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic summarized the Science Fest and presented the scientific achievements from last year on the Science Day.
The conference was opened by the Rector of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, Doctor of Economics, Professor, Winner of the State Award of Ukraine in Science and Technology Volodymyr Onyshchenko.
“Digital technologies made it possible for almost 400 participants of the plenary meeting of 72nd Scientific Conference of Professors, Teachers, Academic Staff, Post-Graduates and Students to join the ceremonial summarizing of the Science Fest in the Academic Board Hall online. It was a long expected meeting after two months of the lockdown!” the Rector said.
The academic community was greeted online by the academicians of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (NAS) and honorable professors of our university: the Head of the North-Eastern Scientific Center of NAS and the Ministry of Education of Ukraine Volodymyr Semynozhenko, the President of the National Center “Minor Academy of Sciences of Ukraine” Stanislav Dovhyi, the Deputy Head of the Committee of State Awards of Ukraine in Science and Technology, the Deputy Head of the Supervisory Board of the University Vadym Stohnii.
For many years, National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” has been hosting a branch of the North-Eastern Scientific Center of NAS of Ukraine. “With special joy, I congratulate the university team. I am proud to be a professor at the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, Volodymyr Semynozhenko said. He was one of the initiators of founding the holiday, and he remembered an interesting story about how the date for the National Science Day was chosen, and his discussion with Borys Platon, because he thought about celebrating the day in autumn. “But nothing is as associated with science which is the ground for the society development as spring and the nature blossoming!”
“I am pleased to greet you, my colleagues, to the Science Day. Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic is the center of scientific and pedagogical activity of Poltava Region. The traditions, brought by such famous scientists as Mykhailo Ostrohradskyi, Mykola Sklifosovskyi, Volodymyr Vernadskyi and Yuri Kondratyuk, are still remembered and developed further by young scientists and researchers,” Stanislav Dovhyi congratulated the meeting participants on behalf of the Presidium of NAS of Ukraine.
The Deputy Head of the Committee of State Awards of Ukraine in Science and Technology Vadym Stohnii emphasized, “I am sincerely proud of the achievements the university has today. I believe that a national university should be scientific and have great scientists and researchers in its team.”
During the 72nd conference, in total more than 1500 academicians and students presented their scientific reports, discussed the current problems of modern science and presented their own innovations. The results of the presentations were published in the form of collection of abstracts, now available online at the university official website.
“The power of the scientific traditions of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” and the importance of the scientific achievements inspire the university team for new successes every year.
“We have a lot of things to be proud of, the university is without a doubt a leader of educational and scientific fields. It is confirmed by the activity of those 10 globally recognized schools of thought functioning at our university, and the results of the activity of these schools are represented both with the degree theses defenses, doctoral dissertations, and with the development of the innovative products, which are commercialized in a real economic sector. Of great importance is the fact that the university cooperates both with the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, and with the business, which often purchases services in scientific research and service.
“According to the Scopus rating, the university is ranked first among Poltava higher education institutions. It is another proof of effective scientific activity.
“I am sure that all the higher education institutions have to organize effective scientific activity, because science is the indication of the quality of educational services,” Rector said.
The university created a scientific ecosystem and formed scientific infrastructure, in particular, 15 scientific and research laboratories function here (including those certified by DSTU ISO 10012 standards). The most efficient activity in 2019 was shown was the Testing Center, the Science and Research Laboratory of Occupational Safety and Environment. The Science and Production Laboratory of Washing Liquids, and the 3D Modelling, Projecting and Visualization Laboratory of Oil and Gas Technologies also had good results that year.
The Vice-Rector for Scientific and International Affairs, PhD in Economics, Associate Professor, Winner of the Award of the President of Ukraine for Young Scientists Svitlana Sivitska presented the scientific activity of Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic.
“The scientific infrastructure of the university includes 9 scientific and experimental laboratories for technical fields and 4 for social studies. I would like to emphasize that the activity of Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic is directed on conducting scientific and technical research, commercializing the research, integrating to the world research space, strengthening and diversifying the facilities, training the scientific staff, and supporting the scientific activity of young scientists and students.
“In 2019, the cost of commercialized research totaled to 5.7 million hryvnias. A great attention is paid to holding joint scientific research and events with the representatives of the industry, production and business.
“The university registered 116 patents on inventions, useful models and certificates on the intellectual property.
“Ensuring the growth of publication rates of the university, the scientists published 502 articles in editions indexed by the Scopus scientific database (h-index 15) and 320 articles in editions indexed by the Web of Science scientific database (h-index 13). It is important to mention, that in 2020 Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic has been ranked the first among Poltava regional higher education institutions in the list of the best universities by Scopus.
“The university is the base for Poltava Branch of the North-Eastern Scientific Center of NAS of Ukraine and the Ministry of Education of Ukraine, 10 acknowledged Schools of Thought, Young Scientists Board and the only Start-Up School in Poltava region.
“The university has formed a high-quality team. Among the academic staff of the university, there are 10 winners of the State Award of Ukraine in Science and Technology, 18 winners of the Award of the President of Ukraine for Young Scientists. In 2019, four young scientists were awarded with the Award of the resident of Ukraine for Young Scientists 2019 for the work “The Constructive Assurance of the Reliability of Complicated Building Systems: the Aspect of Security”. More students are admitted to the third (educational and scientific) level of education. The annual number of post-graduates is 83 people.
“The university has three specialized academic boards in six specialties.
“The university students are involved in the scientific research of different forms, such as participating in the scientific clubs, working in scientific and experimental laboratories, taking part in conducting contract and government-funded research.”
The heads of structural divisions of Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” presented reports on the scientific activity of the education and research institutes and faculties.
National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” performs efficient scientific activity, and this fact is proved with numerous victories of university students and teachers at international programs and competitions, the activity of the schools of thought, the patents and scientific publications of the university, startups and various scientific events.
Honoring the efficient scientific activity, 85 academic workers received awards of different levels, 37 students were awarded for great results at scientific competitions.
The powerful team of academic staff of the university ensures the development of scientific and technological activity within the priority goals and strategic tasks, and has been yet again highly praised for their scientific achievements; this year, 10 scientists were awarded decorations of the Ministry of Education of Ukraine.
