Poltava Polytechnic students take part in the All-Ukrainian Forum of Student Self-Government Bodies

Representatives of the student self-government of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” became participants in the All-Ukrainian Forum of Student Self-Government Bodies, which took place on May 11-12 in the city of Irpin on the basis of the State Tax University.

On May 11-12, 2023, the All-Ukrainian Forum of Student Self-Government Bodies was held in the city of Irpin on the basis of the State Tax University. The large-scale event was attended by more than 150 young ambitious students from different regions of Ukraine, who discussed the priority areas of student self-government development, the role of those receiving higher education in increasing the efficiency of universities and restoring the infrastructure of higher education institutions affected by military aggression.

The following representatives of the Student Parliament of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” joined the discussion on the issues: the First Deputy President of the Student Parliament, a student of the group 401-FM of the Educational and Research Institute of Finance, Economics, Management and Law Kseniia Kolomiets, Deputy President of the Student Parliament for information activities, student of group 401-NT of the Educational and Research Institute of Oil and Gas Artem Sosnin, and Deputy President of the Student Parliament for international cooperation, student of group 401-NT of the Educational and Research Institute of Oil and Gas Artem Kharchenko.

The main goal of the event was the discussion of topical issues regarding the development of student self-government, exchange of experience, and the search for new partners for future cooperation. The participants reflected on strengthening communication between representatives of self-government and student organizations, and also discussed ways to improve the efficiency of work within the framework of these structures.

As part of the first day of the forum, students had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the university campus, part of which was destroyed during fierce fighting in the city. The teachers of the State Tax University spoke in detail about the chronology of military events that took place within the walls of the university and demonstrated how the local population survived under constant shelling.

In addition, the student youth listened to the speech of volunteer Oleksandr Diachko, who participated in the evacuation of the local population from the indomitable hero city of Irpin and shared his story of his stay in the city.

The audience of the forum also had the opportunity to hear the speech of an outstanding athlete, Olympic Games participant, Ukrainian freestyle wrestler, bronze medallist of the World Championship, silver medallist of the European Championship and Olympic Games, Honoured Master of Sports of Ukraine in freestyle wrestling Valerii Andriitsev.

During the official part of the forum, the discussion “Directions of the development of student self-government in Ukraine” was held, moderated by the Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work and Social Development of the State Tax University Dmytro Ventskovskyi.

The forum participants discussed a number of important issues regarding the improvement of the effectiveness of the educational process implementation, in particular emphasizing:

  • the role of those receiving higher education in the reconstruction of the infrastructure of higher education institutions damaged during the war;
  • issues of financing student self-government;
  • vectors of further development of higher education after the victory of Ukraine;
  • possibilities of supporting school self-government and promoting its development.

During the second day of the All-Ukrainian Forum, intensive discussions took place among the student community, aimed at considering pressing issues related to the current state of legal regulation of student self-government bodies, the introduction of foreign experience of student self-government into domestic practice, problems of student self-government bodies financing, the role of student self-government in education quality assurance in the conditions of martial law, the interaction of student self-government with the administration of higher education institutions and authorities, risks and prospects of student self-government in the conditions of the online format of education.

Students of the Poltava Polytechnic joined the discussions as well, and made their personal contribution by sharing their experiences in solving various issues based on the example of the university’s student self-government.

In addition, the special guest of the second day of the Forum was the educational ombudsman of Ukraine, Serhii Horbachov, who held a discussion with the participants about the importance of student self-government in ensuring the quality of education in wartime conditions and answered a number of thought-provoking questions in the field of improving the effectiveness of student self-government bodies during the war. Serhii Ivanovych noted: “my right is ensured by how others fulfil their duties, and vice versa – the rights of another person depend on how I fulfil my duty.”

At the end of the second day of the All-Ukrainian Forum, a representative of the European Union of Students addressed the participants in an online format, speaking about the experience of the Union’s work aimed at the development of the student community. The participants got acquainted with projects implemented within the framework of providing educational opportunities and aimed at supporting Ukrainian students.

The large-scale All-Ukrainian Forum of Student Self-Government Bodies ended with a solemn ceremony of awarding certificates to the participants.

Earlier, Polytechnic female students became participants of the second International Virtual School on the basis of a leading Polish partner university, Polytechnic young scientists exchanged scientific and educational cases and experiences in various fields.
