Poltava Polytechnic team makes its debut at the student debate between Poltava higher education institutions

Students of the National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic" took part in a debate between students of Poltava higher education institutions. During the game, young people had the opportunity to demonstrate their communication skills, teamwork abilities, critical thinking, ability to clearly and skillfully defend their own opinion, as well as to debate on current topics.

On November 3, on the basis of the Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University, a debate was held between students of higher education institutions in the city of Poltava. The goal of the game was the development of communication skills, the ability to work in a team, critical thinking, the ability to clearly and skillfully defend one's own opinion by young people and the popularization of the debate movement in the city. The event was initiated by the Poltava Student Council and the Department of Culture, Youth and Family of the Poltava City Council.

The game was opened by honorary guests – a representative of the Department of Culture, Youth and Family of the Poltava City Council Olena Strilets, Deputy Director for Educational and Scientific Work of the Poltava Law Institute, Candidate of Law, Associate Professor of the Department of Civil, Economic and Financial Law Oleksandr Shevchyk and the Head of the Student Council of Poltava Valentyna Pedoriaka.

6 teams from Poltava higher education institutions took part in the intellectual game:

  • National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic";
  • Poltava State Medical University;
  • Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University;
  • Poltava V.G. Korolenko National Pedagogical University;
  • Poltava State Agrarian University;
  • Poltava University of Economics and Trade.

The debaters from Poltava Polytechnic were students of the 2nd and 3rd academic year: Ruslana Borodai, group 201-AOP (Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy); Svitlana Levchenko, group 201-HI (Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy); Pavlo Yavtushenko, group 301-FR (Faculty of Physical Culture and Sport).

"It is very pleasant that you expressed the desire and ability to compete in the debate today as they have not been held in our city for a long time. I hope that you will have fun today, show your knowledge, skills and abilities and let the best one win. I wish you success, confidence, clarity in defending and proving your position and maximum satisfaction from today's event," – wished the representative of the Department of Culture, Youth and Family of the Poltava City Council Olena Strilets.

"I am very glad that today we gathered teams from all higher education institutions of Poltava. Thank you all for joining our event. I wish you success and a good game," – wished head of the Poltava Student Council Valentyna Pedoriaka.

"Poltava is one of the student centers of Ukraine. Indeed, student life in our city is in full swing, and despite such difficult times that we are currently going through, you have found an opportunity to implement such events. We will continue to promote all other similar events that will be implemented by the student community," – noted Oleksandr Shevchyk.

The game was evaluated by a respected and competent jury consisting of:

  • Roman Lipskyi – teacher at Poltava State Agrarian University;
  • Oleksii Liubchenko – Candidate of Law, Assistant Professor of the Department of Constitutional, Administrative, Environmental and Labor Law;
  • Dmytro Tomenko – head of the Youth Council of the Poltava Regional Council, project manager of the Poltava Business Association, Youth Delegate of Ukraine to the UN, Young European Ambassador in Ukraine.

The debate took place in three rounds. The topic of the first round is "Optimal form of education: online or offline? The quality of education or the priority of youth safety?", the second round – "Education and employment: Is a diploma a priority for employment?", and the third – "The effectiveness of international institutions (UN, IAEA) – a relic of the past or the prospect of effective reform?".

According to the results of the draw in the first round, the Poltava Polytechnic team competed with the Poltava State Medical University team.

Defending the position of online education, the team of the Poltava Polytechnic gave arguments for the availability of online education, its convenience and practicality, and also noted the safety of this format, which is extremely relevant in the conditions of martial law. Opponents played a productive game, during which each team managed to adequately defend their position.

As a result, the winners of the game were:

  • 1st place – Poltava State Medical University;
  • 2nd place – Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University;
  • 3d place – Poltava State Agrarian University.

According to the results of the competition, the winners and participating teams were awarded certificates.

Earlier, the winners of the first stage of the XIII Taras Shevchenko International Language and Literary Competition for Pupils and Students were determined.
