Poltava Schools and International Students Join the Student Mathematics Club

On May 8, National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” held an online meeting of the Student Mathematics Club. The students of Poltava Scientific Lyceum No. 3 and foreign students presented reports about famous mathematicians and scientific traditions of their countries.

Almost 40 people participated in the online event, among them were school students and university students, who presented informative scientific reports about famous mathematicians and the application of mathematical calculations in programming languages and oil and gas engineering.

The development of the Ukrainian mathematics, the importance of studying it and of knowing the English language were described by the Head of the Department of Further and Applied Mathematics of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” Nataliia Ichanska. The idea to hold the meeting of the mathematical club in English was supported by all the participants.

All the present people took part in the scientific discussion “Mathematics is the universal language of our planet”. In particular, the Assistant Professor of the Department of Further and Applied Mathematics of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” Klavdiia Solovchuk spoke about the life and scientific achievements of famous Ukrainian mathematician Mykhailo Ostrohradskyi.

The lyceum students presented their class with an interesting video; a fascinating report about the life and scientific activity of famous Ukrainian mathematician Mykhailo Kravchuk was presented by 10th grade student of Poltava Scientific Lyceum No. 3 Mykola Bieloied.

The permanent participants of the mathematical club, first-year students of Oil and Gas Engineering presented a report on the application of mathematics in different fields of human activity (presenter was student of group 101NH Yaroslav Turenko).

Foreign students of group 1-CSI prepared reports about their countries and famous scientists:

  • Elkamel Kaoutar and Ismail Mouna spoke about the culture and traditions of Morocco and famous Arabian mathematicians of the ancient and modern times;
  • Alatfi Fahd Mohammed spoke about mysterious Egypt, its ancient history and world famous scientists;
  • Kalala Golden presented a report about culture and tradition of Africa, showing the life and work of Edward Makuka Nkoloso, a Zambian teacher, community leader, the founder of the Zambia National Academy of Science, Space Research and Philosophy.

The moderator and the participants of the Students Mathematics Club mentioned the high organization level and how interesting the club was, and were thankful for the given opportunity to communicate and discuss the scientific topics.
