Polytechnic Post-Graduates Chosen To Be Contenders For Title Of Ambassadors Of UN Sustainable Development Goals

SDG-Ambassadors is a leadership program for youth to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and create projects to bring them to life. Sustainable Development Goals are the goals the world has to achieve before 2030.

The Global Sustainable Development Goals were passed in 2015 on the UN summit for the sustainable development problems. With the initiative of the Ukrainian government and the support of the UN system, an open and inclusive adaptation process of the SDG was held this last year in Ukraine. With the goal to not leave anyone behind and using the wide range of informational, statistic and analytic materials, the national system of SDG was developed (86 development tasks and 172 indicators for monitoring their fulfillment).

SDG recognized all around the world today specify their own development indicators and include 17 goals and 169 tasks. The SDG list was officially approved at the meetings of the UN General Assembly at the end of September, 2015.

SDG-Ambassadors Project was created to educate the youth about the SDG, and motivate to fulfill the SDG challenges organized by Ukrainian companies, the participants of which will receive the honored title of SDG-Ambassador. The uniqueness of this program is in the opportunities for the youth to develop their leadership skills and create projects cooperating closely with business and communities for positive influence.

“The project is relevant because it’s the business that has the possibility to positively influence communities, create joint projects with them and realize important ideas for improving the living conditions in the cities, and the young Ambassadors contribute to perfecting this interaction on different levels, encouraging citizens to share their own view on the city development,” the organizers said.

The program is being realized during 2020 and includes 10 rounds. PhD student of Management Iryna Novatska (academic advisor is Doctor of Economics, Professor Iryna Chychkalo-Kondratska) and PhD student of Business, Trade and Exchange Activities Kateryna Chelembiienko (academic advisor is Doctor of Economics, Associate Professor Iryna Chernysh) have successfully passed three rounds of the program. The fourth one requires that the chosen participants fulfill weekly challenges on the sustainable development created by Ukrainian companies (June-August 2020).

For three months the participants will perform 12 tasks and challenges on sustainable development from socially responsible Ukrainian companies, and that will enhance the knowledge of the youth and involve them in the global movement for the sustainable development.

The fifth round determines the new SDG-Ambassadors who will participate in the final round (at the beginning of September, 2020).

The change-maker’s task is to spread the SDG ideas among the youth of Ukraine by delivering presentations at universities, taking part in the events for youth or holding informational campaign online.

During a year, the SDG Ambassador will:

  • - represent one of the 17 sustainable development goals and develop a mini-project;
  • - evaluate the input of the companies in the country development at yearly competition in the cases of companies with social responsibility;
  • - spread the ideas and Global Sustainable Development Goals 2030 in Ukraine;
  • - provide recommendations for various national initiatives in sustainable development;
  • - do surveys on the young people’s thoughts on the sustainable development and CSR;
  • - represent Ukraine at international level.

CSR Ukraine has been developing social responsibility in companies for more than 10 years, as well as contributing to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals through the CSR activities.
