Polytechnic Celebrates the International Day of Human Space Flight and Honors the Space Explorers

National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” together with Poltava Aviation and Aerospace Museum celebrated the 60th anniversary of the first human space flight. The administration of university and the museum honored the memory of a famous inventor from Poltava, and scientists and students discussed the history of space exploration.

On April 12, Rector of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, Professor Volodymyr Onyshchenko and Director of Poltava Aviation and Aerospace Museum Andrii Pushkariev honored famous Poltava citizen and genius of space exploration Yuri Kondratyuk by bringing flowers to both of the monuments to him.

The academic staff of Ukrainian Studies, Culture and Documentation Department of Faculty of Humanities at National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” and the employees of Poltava Aviation and Aerospace Museum held the annual student round table on the occasion of the International Day of Human Space Flight. This year’s scientific event was dedicated to the 60th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin’s space flight, a remarkable date for the humanity.

Iryna Perederii, Doctor of History, Professor, Head of Ukrainian Studies, Culture and Documentation Department, Iryna Pistolenko, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Head of the Research Sector of Poltava Aviation and Aerospace Museum, Anna Ageicheva, Dean of Faculty of Humanities, and students of Education and Research Institute of Finance, Economics and Management, ERI of Information Technology and Mechanotronics, Faculty of Humanities and Poltava Oil and Gas College of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” took part at the student round table.

The participants were greeted by university’s old friend and partner, Director of Poltava Aviation and Aerospace Museum Andrii Pushkariev: “Greetings to students, teachers, scientists, whose interest to the history of aerospace exploration does not fade. Every year, we celebrate the date, without which we cannot imagine the history of aerospace discoveries, in such a friendly company. I am happy that the university that bears Yuri Kondratyuk’s name is eager to join our scientific and educational initiatives. I wish all the participants interesting presentations, fruitful discussions and constructive dialogs!”

The event was moderated by Andrii Naradko, PhD in History, Associate Professor of Ukrainian Studies, Culture and Documentation Department of Poltava Polytechnic.

Six students of ERI of Finance, Economics and Management, ERI of Information Technology and Mechanotronics, ERI of Oil and Gas, Faculty of Humanities delivered informative scientific presentations that covered the formation of the natural satellite of our planet, Yuri Kondratyuk’s scientific views, interesting facts about space exploration, and the role of women in science and the popularization of STEM education.

First-year student of Education and Research Institute of Finance, Economics and Management Dmytro Mahrilov presented a report on the achievements and biography of famous pioneer of aviation studies Oleksandr Kovanko.

The mystery of the appearance of the Moon was researched and presented by first-year student of Education and Research Institute of Information Technology and Mechanotronics Olesia Shurpyk.

According to Iryna Panchenko, the role of Kondratyuk's lunar orbit rendezvous is difficult to overestimate in the modern development of aerospace technology.

A presentation in English about interesting facts and the considerable input of Ukrainian scientists to space exploration was delivered by Kateryna Pochtakova, student of Faculty of Humanities.

First-year student Dana Cherkaska spoke about the prospects of the development of women science and analyzed certain aspects of the introduction of STEM education, mentioned the great achievements of female scientists Hypatia, Émilie du Châtelet, Maria Agnesi, Augusta King, Marie-Sophie Germain, Emmy Noether.

The achievements of Space X in space exploration were presented by Bohdana Kuryliuk, who emphasized several key moments in the development of modern information technology and their role in space exploration.

Every presentation was actively discussed in the chat of the video conference, and the participants of the event mentioned the high organization level and interesting topics of the speeches.

“As we all agreed, holding such scientific meetings makes for the development of students’ science, the motivation for scientific activity and the growth of general interest in the research process. We are thankful to the speakers and their scientific advisors, who prepared great presentations and delivered them brilliantly online,” Doctor of History, Professor Iryna Perederii summarized the event.

Last year, Poltava Polytechnic celebrated the International Day of Human Space Flight with large-scale online events.
