The competitions of the World Classic Bench Press Championship ended on October 24, in Vilnius. Professional athletes from Poltava region, as part of the national team of Ukraine in powerlifting, performed successfully, demonstrated excellent results and became the best among opponents.
Master of Sports of International Class of Ukraine, powerlifting coach, senior lecturer at the Department of Physical Therapy and Ergotherapy of the National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic" Oksana Hordiienko became the world champion in classic bench press, showing the maximum result of 67.5 kg.
The professional athlete became the best in the Masters-1 age group (40-44 years) in the weight category 52 kg. At the first attempt Oksana Hordiienko pressed 60 kg, the second attempt brought Poltava resident a result of 65 kg, and the third attempt – 67.5 kg became the maximum result of the World Championship in this category.
According to Oksana Hordiienko, sports activities train the steel strength of willpower, the desire to overcome any obstacles and temper the character: "I am sincerely happy with my own sports victories, and I am even more proud of the significant sports achievements of my disciples, students of the Faculty of Physical Culture and Sports! The National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic" created an excellent material and technical base and favorable conditions for the development of youth sports in the Poltava region, the comprehensive development of the professional athletes’ personality. I am happy that with my own victory I once again confirm the image of Poltava Polytechnic as the sportiest university in the Poltava region."
The disciples of the coach have repeatedly become winners and prize-winners of All-Ukrainian, international competitions, Championships of Ukraine, Europe and the world in classic powerlifting. In particular, in 2019, Dariia Brazhnyk, a master’s student of the Faculty of Physical Culture and Sports of Poltava Polytechnic, became a world champion and set a record for Ukraine.
Earlier, the lecturer and students of Poltava Polytechnic University won the Championship of Poltava region in classic bench press, and a disciple of Oksana Hordiienko, European champion among juniors in powerlifting Dariia Holovko won the World Championship among veterans, juniors (female and male), boys and girls in Romania.
