From September 1 until the end of the year, as part of the project “Free way to integration – elimination of language barriers”, teachers of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” will conduct online courses of the German language for Ukrainians relocated to Germany.

The signing of the agreement on the project implementation was attended by the Head of the Committee on Sports of the All-Ukrainian organization “Union of Persons with Disabilities of Ukraine” Serhii Chumak, who represented the German Association of the Disabled in Muritz, the Dean of the Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor Anna Aheicheva and the rector of the Poltava Polytechnic, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor Volodymyr Onyshchenko.

“Among Ukrainians, in particular those with disabilities and those around them, there is an urgent need to master the language of the country in which they now live. Many of our compatriots left for Germany. The native speakers themselves help them to adapt, but it would be very good if our teachers did it as well. Our cooperation with the university began last year with the all-Ukrainian project “Artsport”. Therefore, the German partners chose Poltava Polytechnic without hesitation.

Language is a tool in the struggle for existence, and it is very important for us to ensure that as many people as possible possess it,” – noted Serhii Chumak.

The project “Free way to integration – elimination of language barriers” involves the development by university teachers of concepts and methods of an online German language course, a curriculum with monthly content, and the preparation of working materials.

“Indeed, the situation now is such that people have gone abroad and are left without support. In general, it is necessary to return and revive the country. Our state has a unique chance. The worst that could happen has already happened. Now we have to come out of the war as a completely different country. But at this stage, I fully share the opinion regarding all possible ways of supporting our compatriots.

The agreement has been signed, the first classes have already taken place, and I am very pleased to hear positive feedback about the high level of our teachers’ skills, as well as to continue cooperation after the “Artsport” project.

In this way, more people will be able to help Ukraine more even from abroad, removing language barriers, and will be able to settle comfortably in a place of temporary shelter, and will also have a connection with the Motherland.

And this is yet another contribution to Victory!” – commented Rector Volodymyr Onyshchenko.

“I am very glad that our cooperation continues. Helping our compatriots abroad is a very important mission. It is very difficult for them – they are faced with the fact that they do not understand everyday life, the language. It’s great that there are organizations like this that help them. I am very delighted that we have relevant specialists. We approached this project pretty responsibly. I am sure that the next six months will pass quite dynamically and all the goals and tasks of this project will be fulfilled,” – noted the Dean of the Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy Anna Aheicheva.

Online German language courses have already started, classes are held twice a week: Tuesday, Thursday from 15:30 to 17:00. Courses are free for attendees.

Previously, a master’s student-translator became a scholarship recipient of the German DAAD program, and three Polytechnic students completed a language intensive course in Germany.
