The largest academic ranking of higher education institutions in the world Webometrics has been researching the web-resources of 30 thousands universities of the world for more than 15 years.
The Ranking Web of Universities system was developed by the Cybermetrics Lab research group that is a part of the Spanish National Research Council at the Ministry of Science and Innovations of Spain. The system of ranking the educational and scientific establishment is based on a combined index that takes into account the volume of web contents and the influence of publications with the number of citations.
Webometrics is an analysis of all the media information using the scientometric, bibliomentric and informational approaches. Webometrics is a special ranking thanks to its methodology and dynamic changes of indicators in the ranking. While the methodologies of other rankings are constantly changing, the principles of Webometrics rankings remain unchanged. Methods and approaches of evaluation of higher education institutions correspond to the Berlin Principles on Ranking of Higher Education Institution, approved as the basics for comparative researches of national higher education systems by International Ranking Expert Group (IREG), founded in 2004 by the European Center for Higher Education (UNESCO-CEPES) and the Institute for Higher Education Policy.
Our university was given the highest mark in the indicator titled Excellence that studied the number of papers, published by authors from the university indexed by Scopus, among the top 10% most cited in each one of the 26 disciplines of the full database Scimago Group. As well as in the indicator titled Transparency, which assess the number of citations according to Google Scholar.
“Websites are the showpieces of higher education institutions in the international educational space, a demonstration of their educational and scientific activities. The web policy and presence of an educational institutions makes for new connections building, informal communication between scientists and realization of innovative designs based on experience exchange and creative cooperation. Publications on higher education institutions’ websites are the easiest and the cheapest way of exchanging information for scientists, teachers and students,” the authors of the ranking mentioned.
According to the results of the new ranking issued in January, three universities of Poltava region entered the top-100 list of Ukrainian higher education institutions. These were: Poltava Polytechnic, Kremenchuk National University and Poltava State Medical University.
