Polytechnic scientist and student complete an internship for teaching Polish with a component of emotional regulation

Despite the full-scale invasion and introduction of martial law on the territory of our country, the teachers and students studying Polish at the National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic" continue to work hard on improving their professional competences. Successful internships, academic youth exchange programs at leading European universities, and acquisition of additional professional skills while studying on informal educational platforms have become a vivid marker of the interaction of creative tandems "teacher and student". Through non-formal education, the participants acquired additional professional competencies, in particular, the application of mindfulness in Polish language classes.

In March, representatives of the Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy of the National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic" – Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of General Linguistics and Foreign Languages Alla Bolotnikova and a second-year student of the specialty 014 "Secondary Education" of the Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy of the university Yevheniia Onyshchenko successfully completed the internship for teachers of the Polish language with a component of emotional regulation.

This project is implemented by the "Education for Democracy" Foundation as part of the "Supporting Ukraine" program and is based on the interests and wishes of student youth to acquire additional practical knowledge, their aspirations to engage in self-education. This educational project is financed by the Polish-American Freedom Foundation.

During the classes, the participants mastered ten educational modules on the methodology of teaching Polish, in particular, they discussed the peculiarities of teaching Slavs, teaching grammar at the initial stages of language learning, mastering Polish pronunciation. Considerable attention was paid to the issue of language learning by watching films using the textbook "Polska mozaika filmowa" (Izabela Górnicka-Zdziech). And a peculiar "highlight" of the internship was the exchange of useful cases regarding the use of mindfulness practice in Polish language classes.

According to Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of General Linguistics and Foreign Languages of the National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic" Alla Bolotnikova, the positive motivation of student youth to acquire practical knowledge, necessary for further personal and professional growth, has recently been increasing.

"By changing the focus from constant "cramming" to interest in learning, the focus of education itself also changes, which becomes focused not on the result, but on the process of assimilating new knowledge. Along with mastering the educational program, the development of students' ability to educate and self-education is becoming important. Discussing and debating, defending one's position, and not believing in everything is an effective set of practical tools that are powerful tools of the educational process of the future," – commented the scientist.

Upon successful completion of the internship, the participants received appropriate certificates, a set of modern textbooks on learning Polish and shared the positive impressions they received.

"This language practice was a revelation for me, a chance to use the acquired knowledge in real conditions, to learn a lot of new things, to gain knowledge from real professionals in their field. In my opinion, the possibility of applying such useful practical cases in the process of working with children forced to experience the horrors of war is extremely effective. Awareness of one's own emotions and feelings is the key to improving the quality of life, to understanding one's needs, and therefore it affects the effectiveness of learning a foreign language.

The lecturers managed to teach us in practice that attention works only here and now, that is, what happened has already lost its relevance, and what will happen after a certain time has not yet acquired its own significance. If you pay attention to children's feelings in the present, it will turn out that they are able to notice beautiful landscapes, enjoy pleasant communication, and be interested in something new," – said a student of group 201-GO of the Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy of the National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic" Yevheniia Onyshchenko.

The mastered state-of-the-art mindfulness techniques will be successfully used in classes on the practice of speaking and writing, practical grammar, and methods of teaching the Polish language. And for the future teacher, who in a few years will be working with pupils and student youth, the colossal practical experience will be another step towards acquiring additional professional competencies.

It should be recalled that Poltava museum workers presented students with a facsimile of a rare Gospel published in Arabic at the expense of Hetman Ivan Mazepa, and the document expert teacher shared how to detect and neutralize manipulations in business communication.

Recently, Polytechnic students visited the colorful EthnoHomestead in Opishnia, and young researchers from the Poltava region presented their research in the field of translation studies and intercultural communication.
