Polytechnic scientist Volodymyr Makohon died

National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic" is in a deep sorrow – on December 6, our colleague, researcher and compatriot, one of our best geologists-scientists of Ukraine, Candidate of Geological Sciences Volodymyr Volodymyrovych Makohon, died.

Polytechnic scientist Volodymyr Makohon died

The scientist hails from the Poltava region – from Bilyky, worked for a long time at the Chernihiv branch of the Ukrainian Geological and Exploration Institute (from 1993 until its liquidation).

In 2021, he entered the doctoral program of the Institute of Geological Sciences of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and at the same time began teaching at our university – at the Institute of Oil and Gas. In the summer of 2022, he was mobilized into the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and stood up for the defense of Ukraine, but even while at the front, he participated in scientific research.

Dear Volodymyr Volodymyrovych was one of the best and most promising students of Academician Oleksandr Yukhymovych Lukin, who also works at our Institute of Oil and Gas.

As a scientist, he worked on the main directions of scientific research, such as the study of lithology, stratigraphy, facies, paleogeography, features of sedimentation of Paleozoic deposits of the Eastern oil and gas-bearing region of Ukraine, regularities of the formation and placement of hydrocarbon deposits, general issues of lithogenesis of sedimentary formations.

Volodymyr Makohon has accumulated enormous practical experience as an engineer, researcher, head of the lithology sector, head of the methodology sector for the study of the Dnipro-Donetsk depression of the oil exploration methodology department.

While working at the university, before mobilization, Volodymyr Volodymyrovych performed significant work for oil and gas production companies on substantiation and identification of promising areas on the northern side of the Dnipro-Donetsk depression (DDD) and at great depths in the central part of the DDD.

The war cut short the life of an outstanding geologist, his work on a doctoral dissertation and his participation in a joint project with our scientists. These studies will be carried out, and the results will be dedicated to the memory of Volodymyr Makohon.

We share this pain of irreparable loss with the family and scientific community, we express our sincere condolences to the whole family – his mother and sisters, wife, son.

Heroes do not die!

Let us be worthy of the bright memory of our defenders, thanks to whom we meet every new day while they desperately fight the enemy even at the cost of their own lives.
