Polytechnic scientists undergo a programming course at the Siemens Ukraine Training Center

During November 2-3, lecturers of the National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic" – Oleksandr Shefer and Vasyl Halai were trained in the only automated training center in Ukraine for Siemens training programs. Scientists have deepened their theoretical knowledge of controllers configuration and programming, experimented and practiced in eliminating hardware and software errors.

Within the framework of the Memorandum on Scientific and Educational Cooperation and Partnership between National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic" and the leading high-tech company Siemens, lecturers of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Information Technology and Robotics – Doctor of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of Automation, Electronics and Telecommunications Oleksandr Shefer and Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Automation, Electronics and Telecommunications Vasyl Halai, visited the SITRAIN Ukraine Training Center – the only automated training center in the country for Siemens training programs. The training center is equipped with up-to-date industrial equipment and allows to conduct specialized training, taking into account individual characteristics and technologies.

Scientists of Poltava Polytechnic successfully passed a training, during which they deepened their theoretical knowledge on configuration and programming of S7-1200 controllers in the Totally Integrated Automation Portal (TIA Portal) for SIMATIC S7-1200, which is a development environment for designing using SIMATIC STEP 7 Basic and SIMATIC WinCC Basic.

They had a unique opportunity to implement the theoretical knowledge acquired during the configuration of hardware components and experimented during the localization and elimination of hardware and software errors in the SIMATIC S7-1200 automation system. The training course was led by a lecturer at the SITRAIN Training Center in Kyiv, a mentor of the Siemens Competence Center, and a research engineer Hanna Zemlianukhina.

The course program included:

  • Review of controllers S7-1200 and S7-1500;
  • Components of the TIA Portal development environment: SIMATIC STEP 7 Basic and WinCC Basic;
  • The principle of program processing by the automation system;
  • Binary operations and operations on numbers in LAD and FBD language (functional diagram);
  • Devices and networks;
  • PLC tags;
  • Data blocks;
  • Organizational blocks.

Practical exercises were performed using SIMATIC S7-1200 training stands with KTP600PN touch panel, FieldPG or PC programmer and conveyor model.

"Hands-on cases obtained during the training will certainly be implemented at the Educational and Scientific Siemens Center of National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic" during on-line/off-line PLC programming, testing and diagnostics functions in the TIA Portal programming package.

This will allow, by improving the quality of educational services, students of higher education institutions to deepen theoretical knowledge and expand practical skills of programming controllers in order to implement and control complex technological processes of various industries of production and processing of various products," – said Doctor of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of Automation, Electronics and Telecommunications of Poltava Polytechnic Oleksandr Shefer.

In total, 8 students took part in the training – two representatives from each higher education institution of Ukraine, who have equipment from SIEMENS – Khmelnytskyi National University, V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, Kryvyi Rih National University and Donetsk National Technical University.

Upon ending of the training, participants Oleksandr Shefer and Vasyl Halai received certificates of successful completion of the course "System course on the study of the principles of configuration and programming of controllers S7-1200 in TIA Portal.

Scientists and practitioners agreed on further scientific and educational cooperation as well as discussed priority areas of practical training for specialists in the field of automation, electronics and telecommunications.

Earlier, students of Poltava Polytechnic visited the Siemens Ukraine Training Center.
