On March 17, at the meeting of the Academic Council of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, a Memorandum on cooperation between the Poltava Polytechnic and the Ukrainian Association of Women in Law Enforcement (UAWLE) was signed.
“The university, as always, is on the wave of innovation, since the issue of gender equality is extremely important, including from the point of view of Ukraine's entry into the European community. The organization of relations between the association and the university was worked out with the leading legal adviser of the university, Olena Dubinka, and the association's member, Kateryna Hryhorenko, a representative of the Territorial Administration of Judicial Protection in the Poltava Region, a graduate of our university.
The purpose of this memorandum is the organization of mutual educational and scientific cooperation, with the aim of effectively promoting the development of education and science in the region along with implementing of scientific and educational programs and projects, strengthening the material and technical base of the parties and, on this basis, fully satisfying the needs in solving the tasks of educational activity.
Our joint plans are simply grandiose, so I am sincerely happy about the powerful partnership, and it is also nice to watch the career successes and achievements of our graduates!” – said the Rector of the University, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor Volodymyr Onyshchenko.
Member of the UAWLE board, head of the patrol police management sector in the Poltava region of the Patrol Police Department, a 2003 graduate of the university Nataliia Novikova and rector of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, Professor Volodymyr Onyshchenko solemnly signed the document.
The Ukrainian Association of Women in Law Enforcement was established in March 2018. The governing body of the association is the board, the founder of the NGO and the head of the board – Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, police major Kateryna Pavlichenko. The organization sees its mission as leadership in achieving national and global goals to ensure gender equality by strengthening the role and increasing the professionalism of women in law enforcement agencies of Ukraine. One of the strategic areas of the association's work is to assist law enforcement authorities in providing gender-sensitive services in all communities, thereby improving the safety of women and girls.
Head of the patrol police management sector in the Poltava region of the Patrol Police Department Nataliia Novikova familiarized the members of the Academic Council with the areas of work and activities of the Association.
“The goal of our Association’s work is to achieve national and global goals to ensure gender equality by strengthening the role and increasing the professionalism of women in law enforcement agencies of Ukraine.
The main directions of the organization’s activities are promotion of professional and personal growth, support of both female and male members of the association in their professional growth, improvement of competences, tactical training and self-defence, de-escalation of conflicts and handling of firearms. We also work on leadership development, implementation of mentoring programs, organize large-scale events, with which the association raises important issues at the general level, tries to find solutions to current problems in building equal rights and opportunities for women and men.
The association also represents law enforcement agencies of Ukraine at the international level at events dedicated to peacebuilding, the position of women in the system of law enforcement agencies, and issues of gender equality. Membership in the association is open, so there are also men in the association who advocate for women's leadership, help women become more professional and move forward in their careers.
We have very ambitious goals, there is a lot of work ahead of us, and I believe that today, with the signing of the Memorandum, we have gained a very powerful partner,” – emphasized Nataliia Novikova.
Cooperation with UAWLE involves the exchange of relevant information related to aspects of mutual cooperation in the field of education and science, joint consultations, implementation of scientific research projects and development of current issues of the economic and social life of the country in the field of education, science and gender equality, social protection of the population with the aim of making effective decisions, taking part in joint projects on issues of education, social areas, in the field of scientific research on the implementation of justice, observance of gender equality, competitions and other forms of involved and scientific investments, participation in the organization and conduct of scientific, scientific-practical and scientific-methodical conferences, symposia, congresses, seminars and other scientific events, participation in the development and implementation of new educational courses, programs, exchange of educational-methodical programs, materials, bibliographic and reference literature.
Earlier, a gender audit was conducted at the university as part of the educational project “Profession by vocation, not by stereotype”, and law enforcement officers conducted training dedicated to countering the most common gender stereotypes.
