With the support of the Ukrainian NGO "Development and Initiative", a third-year student at the Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy of the National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic" Diana Abbasova took part in an 11-day Erasmus+ youth exchange "Eco-Friendly Youth", which took place from April 26 to May 6, 2022 in the ski resort of Bakuriani (Georgia).
Participants from Ukraine, Portugal, Belgium, Bulgaria, Georgia and Armenia developed environmental conservation skills at the Bakuriani ski resort and mastered practical knowledge in the tourist center of Georgia – Kutaisi.
According to participant Diana Abbasova, thanks to this project, young people from different European countries had the opportunity to focus on the need to be environmentally conscious: "The organizers held practical workshops, where we learned to distinguish different types of garbage, how to reuse things and reflect on how exactly these things were created in general. The basic rule of ecology is the rule 5R (reuse, refuse, reduce, recycle, rot), this is what we were taught on the project. I am very glad to be able to see the beauty of Sakartvelo in the tourist towns of Borjomi and Akhaltsikhe."
After completing the educational course, participants had the opportunity to put their own creative ideas into real life and organize various activities for active youth in order to disseminate information to local communities about the preservation of our planet through environmental awareness.
"I am sincerely grateful to the team of the Ukrainian NGO "Development and Initiative" and personally to the project coordinator Kateryna Priazhnykova for the opportunity to develop and improve our knowledge, enhance practical skills within the competences of Erasmus +. This is my first participation in an environmental project supported by Erasmus+ Programme and it is without exaggeration one of the best non-formal education experiences I have had.
I can safely recommend participation in such international projects to other students in order to improve their practical skills and knowledge in various fields. Moreover, such projects take place in the amazing towns of different European (and not only) countries, which is a great opportunity to see the world and get to know other cultures. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to my teacher, Anna Pavelieva, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Germanic Philology and Translation of Poltava Polytechnic, who helped me to be prepared for the project. Further plans are to work on new youth initiatives and successfully implement my own ideas in Poltava Polytechnic," – said Diana Abbasova.
Earlier, six students of Polytechnic participated in the Polish scholarship program SPINAKER from NAWA, a philology student participated in Erasmus+ project for youth leaders in Greece, participated in Erasmus+ training on mental health in wartime, online social entrepreneurship and social entrepreneurship training under the Erasmus+ programme "Volunteers beyond borders", and Poltava Polytechnic scientist Anna Pavelieva participated in the 5-day online academic mobility program Erasmus+ "Future Skills Now", dedicated to improving the professional skills of young teachers and scientists.
