Polytechnic teacher successfully completes the course “European Practices of Scientific Excellence in the Digital Age”

Associate Professor of the Department of International Economic Relations and Tourism of Poltava Polytechnic Iryna Levchenko took a course on Scientific Excellence in the Digital Age, where she got acquainted with the European practices of publishing materials and data in the digital space.

Polytechnic teacher successfully completes the course “European Practices of Scientific Excellence in the Digital Age”

Doctor of Philosophy, Associate Professor of the Department of International Economic Relations and Tourism of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” Iryna Levchenko successfully completed the course “European Practices of Scientific Excellence in the Digital Age” and received a certificate. The scientific event was held from 13 January to 7 February 2025. The presented course was organised with the support of the ERASMUS+ programme as part of the Jean Monnet Chair project “Strengthening EU Leadership and Capacity in Science and Innovation” (101175767-EU_STRENGTHS-ERASMUS-JMO-2024-HEI-TCH-RSCH) for 2024-2027. The project is being implemented by the Department of Economics, Entrepreneurship and Business Administration of Sumy State University under the guidance of Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor Inna Koblianska.

The course programme envisaged:

  1. Classroom work (lectures and seminars, 50 hours) on the following topics:
  • Open science and FAIR data management as a basis for research in the EU (2 hours);
  • Ethics and data privacy in the EU (2 hours);
  • Research idea and project preparation: EU practices (4 hours);
  • Collection and management of research data: EU practices (including training on the use of OpenAire resources) (4 hours);
  • Fundamentals of data analysis (including Data types and analysis methods, Data analysis in R, Data analysis in STATA, Programming basics, Data visualisation, Digital content creation) (24 hours);
  • Academic writing and publication of results: EU practices (including Zotero training for bibliography management) (8 hours);
  • Research funding opportunities in the EU (2 hours);
  • Scientific communication and collaboration: EU resources (4 hours).
  1. Individual and group work (70 hours):
  • Preparation of an extended research abstract in accordance with European publication practices.

The course allowed the young scientist to get acquainted with European practices of publishing materials and data in the digital space. This will help her to strengthen her own publication activity in the future.

The Jean Monnet Chair EU_STRENGHTS contributes to strengthening EU leadership and capacity in science and innovation by: providing Ukrainian and foreign students, businesspeople, as well as academics with knowledge and competencies on EU innovation; strengthening the capacity of Ukrainian researchers to conduct high-quality and impactful research, fostering innovation in academia and beyond; and strengthening ties between the Ukrainian and EU scientific communities.
