Polytechnic teacher undergoes online training under the “Active Citizens” program from the British Council in Ukraine

Head of the Council of Young Scientists of the Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy of the Poltava Polytechnic, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Germanic Philology and Translation, Anna Pavelieva, for the second time, became a participant in online training under the “Active Citizens” program from the British Council in Ukraine. Project participants discussed youth volunteering, public safety.

Head of the Council of Young Scientists of the Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Germanic Philology and Translation Anna Pavelieva actively continues to participate in a wide variety of scientific and educational projects, programs and international exchanges, systematically increasing her own professional qualifications as well as inspiring young students and teaching colleagues with her own example.

For the second time, the scientist became a participant in the online training program “Active Citizens” from the British Council in Ukraine, during which representatives from different parts of our country discussed youth volunteering, public safety and the effective implementation of social action projects.

The online training “Youth volunteering and public safety” under the program “Active citizens” was held during January 23-25, 2023 by the public organisation “Sustainable Development Agency “Khmarochos” in partnership with the public organisation “Ukrainian Association of Young Councils” within the framework of the project “Strengthening interdisciplinary cooperation for social cohesion (SC3)”, co-financed by the European Union and the British Council in Ukraine. The training was held for youth councils of educational institutions (student councils, councils of young scientists, etc.), youth councils of communities and regions, associations of youth councils, etc., who have ideas and projects for improving life around them and solving problems at the local level.

As a part of the online training, participants from different parts of Ukraine discussed how youth councils and councils of young scientists can influence changes in their community, how to become more effective and establish stable partnerships in times of challenges and uncertainty, and what practical skills will help change the society in which we are living now. Young scientists and activists got acquainted with new tools for working with young people, establishing partnerships in the community, developing youth volunteerism and supporting social cohesion; improved the skills of writing social action projects and learned to prepare a content plan, created mapping of their youth communities with existing issues as well as potential options for their study, studied the possibilities of participating in the mini-grant competition from the British Council and winning funding for their project, learned about the possibilities of professional and personal growth together with the “Active Citizens” program.

The team of participants deepened their knowledge with the help of Padlet, Jamboard, Mentimeter and various practical exercises (for example, “Listening on three levels”, “Iceberg”, exercises to find one’s own identity, etc.). The facilitators of the course were Kateryna Kryva, communications manager, Anna Lishchyna, facilitator, and Svitlana Lytvynenko, facilitator. According to the Poltava Polytechnic scientist, Anna Pavelieva, the acquired colossal practical experience she will certainly consolidate in further professional activities, as well as share her achievements with colleagues and student youth.

“Getting additional professional and practical skills, I want to do something effective for my own university, community and our country as a whole. The cases received during the online training will be useful in planning the activities of our faculty, and the issue of public safety is currently one of the key issues in Ukrainian society. Our students willingly respond to social initiatives, try themselves in a wide variety of charitable projects. Therefore, the experience gained will not remain unrealized, we have a lot of interesting practical ideas,” – commented Head of the Council of Young Scientists of the Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Germanic Philology and Translation Anna Pavelieva.

It should be recalled that last year the Polytechnic scientist underwent training under the “Active Citizens” program of the British Council in Ukraine, dedicated to social changes and effective mechanisms for establishing intercultural dialogue as well as conflict resolution on the territory of the state, the university teachers successfully completed their training within the framework of the Autumn School of Young Scientist 3.0, the scientist philologist completed a course devoted to the volunteer programs of the European Solidarity Corps and became a participant of the online school “I choose Ukrainian. 10 steps to victory”.

Previously, the participants of the psychological studio mastered the most common art practices for children and adults, the President of Ukraine awarded a Polytechnic professor with a state scholarship, and a Polytechnic master’s student became a silver medalist in a scientific competition, having researched cooperation between Ukraine and the EU in the field of organic agriculture.
