On 9-14 June 2025, Associate Professor of the Department of Germanic Philology and Translation of Poltava Polytechnic, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Yuliia Nikolaienko took part in the Erasmus+ academic mobility program at University of Applied Sciences Burgenland (Hochschule Burgenland), Austria.
The main goal of the program was teaching, which included eight hours of English B2 classes for students of the preparatory department from around the world who are learning English to pass the certification exam and enter Austrian higher education institutions. These were the final lessons of the course, so the main focus was on improving students’ English communication skills in all types of language activities, namely speaking, reading, listening and writing, in order to pass the exam.
The mobility program also included a series of meetings with the faculty of University of Applied Sciences Burgenland to exchange best practices and experiences in education and science, to establish cooperation and discuss possible joint projects for the academic year 2025/2026, and to popularize Ukrainian culture, education, and science.
As part of this step in the program, the scientist from Poltava Polytechnic visited Campus Pinkafeld, which is located in a very picturesque part of Austria and offers the most comfortable conditions for students and teachers: the best equipment in the classrooms, a modern library, innovative laboratories for study and research, and recreation areas. During the meetings with the academic staff of the Faculty of Energy and Environment, they discussed the peculiarities of organizing the educational process at the university and especially the process of teaching English.
An important practical result of the program is the agreement to organize joint online events for students of Poltava Polytechnic and University of Applied Sciences Burgenland. In particular, in the autumn semester of the academic year 2025-2026, Yuliia Nikolaienko and Martin Jandl are planning a number of events in the COIL (collaborative online international learning) format in the field of English-language intercultural communication.
“Thanks to my participation in the academic mobility program, I got a great opportunity to teach at a foreign university.
