The scientific event was founded in 1996 by the President of FIB (International Federation for Structural Concrete), Professor György Balázs in Budapest to support young scientists. Since then, twenty symposiums were held with international experts.
This year’s FIB symposium was held online with the support of the French Association of Civil Construction and the Association of Civil Engineering; the organizers of the PhD symposium were two establishments, the University Gustave Eiffel, and École normale supérieure Paris-Saclay.
The delegation of the Education and Research Institute of Architecture and Construction (ERIAC) was among the 200 participants from 40 countries and included the post-graduate students of Construction and Civil Engineering and their advisors headed by the Deputy Director of ERIAC, a winner of the Award of the President of Ukraine for Young Scientists Oleksandr Zyma. The students’ advisors, including the Doctor of Engineering, the Head of the Department of Reinforced Concrete and Stone Construction and the Strength of Materials, Professor Andrii Pavlikov; PhD in Engineering, Associate Professor, Professor Oksana Dovzhenko, and PhD’s in Engineering, Associate Professors Olha Harkova, Volodymyr Pohridnyi and Anton Hasenko took part in the symposium as experts.
Last year, Olha Harkova presented the results of scientific work of a team of authors, workers of the department, at the symposium at Eduardo Torroja Institute for Construction Science in Madrid.
“The two-year interval between the scientific forums allows to prepare them thoroughly and receive the sufficient amount of new information. The 13th FIB symposium had to be held in Paris. But, due to the pandemic, the organizers decided to divide it into two parts, and this event was held online. Forty scientific works chosen beforehand were sorted into four following categories for presentations: “Innovations in materials and constructions”, “Evaluation of the durability and lifespan of materials”, “Structural analysis and project process”, “Monitoring and structural evaluation”. Every speaker had 30 minutes to deliver their presentation and actively discuss their topic. The participation in such scientific events allows post-graduate students to learn about relevant tendencies in the development of concrete and reinforced concrete, get an objective evaluation of their research, build new scientific contacts with young scientists from all over the world,” a participant of the symposium, PhD in Engineering, Associate Professor Oksana Dovzhenko commented.
The post-graduate students of the Department of Reinforced Concrete and Stone Construction and the Strength of Materials Dmytro Usenko, Yuliia Prykhodko and Iryna Kuznietsova presented the results of their scientific research on the reinforcement of brick work with the combined effects of vertical and horizontal loads, the work of reinforced concrete constructions in complicated deformations and fibrous concrete in local pressure.
The results of the 13th International PhD Symposium in Civil Engineering will be published in a collection of scientific works indexed in the international scientometric database Scopus.
The next traditional symposium is planned for 2021: from July 21 to July 23 in Paris.
