Two second-year students of the Educational and Research Institute of Finance, Economics, Management and Law of Poltava Polytechnic, Karyna Kalnyk (speciality 075 Marketing) and Tetiana Holub (speciality 292 International Economic Relations), are participating in the Erasmus+ credit academic mobility programme at the University of Applied Sciences BFI Vienna in the autumn semester of the academic year 2024/2025.

The University of Applied Sciences BFI Vienna is known for its high academic reputation and practice-oriented study programmes. The university offers students modern teaching methods, interactive lectures and seminars taught by experienced professors as well as professionals from various fields. Thanks to its close ties with business and industry, students have the opportunity to participate in real-world projects, which allows them to gain valuable experience and practical skills.

One of the main advantages of studying at the Vienna University of Applied Sciences is the multicultural environment, which promotes intercultural competence and global thinking. Students from different parts of the world have the opportunity to interact, exchange experiences and cultural traditions, which enriches their academic life.

Credit mobility programmes, such as Erasmus+, are of great importance for the development of professional and personal competences of modern students. They provide an opportunity to gain international experience, broaden horizons and deepen knowledge in their chosen field of study. Studying in another country allows students to adapt to new educational systems, cultures and teaching methods, which contributes to their professional and personal maturity.

In Austria, credit mobility programmes are particularly valuable as the country is known for its high standards of education and innovative approaches to learning. Students who participate in such programmes have the opportunity to study new disciplines, work with advanced technologies and techniques, and establish professional connections that can be useful in their future careers.

Having studied in Vienna for almost half a semester, the participants of the mobility shared their impressions of studying in Austria:

“The system of education at the Vienna University of Applied Sciences is significantly different from ours. Here, they pay more attention to working in pairs: often, in order to get a grade, you need to complete tasks in teams during or after lectures. The study of subjects is not focused on note-taking and theory, but on live discussion, where everyone can express their opinion. The teachers at FH Vienna are very friendly and always ready to help. During the classes, they constantly emphasise that we should not be afraid to ask questions if something is unclear. There is also a convenient way to communicate with teachers using the Microsoft Teams platform.

We study subjects such as: Marketing, where we learn about the basics of marketing, targeting and often analyse various advertisements; Corporate Strategy, where we study various business management strategies on the example of global companies; Business Communication, where we improve our business English skills, and others. At the beginning of the semester, Erasmus Student Network organised a Welcome Week for us, which included various activities such as a walking tour of Vienna, a picnic by the river, a trip to various museums and a quiz night about Vienna and Austria.

We really like Vienna because it is a big city where you can always find somewhere to go with your friends. Apart from the university activities, we have already visited Salzburg, Linz and Prague. A few weeks ago, we took part in Erasmus Days 2024, for which we recorded a video about our impressions of studying at the University of Applied Sciences BFI Vienna.

Studying in Vienna under the Erasmus+ programme was an incredible experience for us and opened up many new opportunities. We had a unique chance to study at FH Vienna, an Austrian university of applied sciences located in the picturesque capital of Austria – Vienna.

During this period, we not only made many friends from all over the world and learnt more about other cultures, but also gained invaluable experience of studying abroad. We have gained in-depth knowledge that will help us in our professional activities in the future.

The teaching here is of a very high standard. Competent and experienced teachers are always ready to help with any questions, not only regarding studies. Convenient timetable, a wide range of subjects required for the future profession, recreation areas, a library, campuses – all this is available at the university.

Although we still have a few months of studying ahead of us, we can already say that we are incredibly happy to be here and study. Together with our friends and the organisers of the Erasmus+ programme, we have already visited other countries and cities, and this is just the beginning of our stay here. We would like to thank National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” for this opportunity to study, we are sure that thanks to this semester in Austria, we have deepened our knowledge in all the fields,” – said the mobility participants.
