For exactly one month, the “Starlink” station has been actively used in the educational process. It should be recalled that on June 6, the rector of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” Volodymyr Onyshchenko fulfilled a pleasant mission – handed over the “Starlink” station to the university team. On June 9, the Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, Mykhailo Fedorov, announced that Starlink Ukraine had received an operator’s license. In just a few days, the students of the “Telecommunications and radio engineering” specialty of the Department of Automation, Electronics and Telecommunications of the Educational and Research Institute of Information Technologies and Robotics practiced independently assembling a high-tech set of satellite communications “Starlink” and setting up devices for working with satellite Internet.
As head of the Department of Automation, Electronics and Telecommunications Oleksandr Shefer noted, the “Starlink” satellite complex is characterized by high operational reliability, regardless of operating conditions, and a significant capacity of communication channels. The “Starlink” system tracks Elon Musk’s “mega-constellation” of satellites using a phased-array antenna driven by an onboard servo. The advantages of “Starlink” are independence from terrestrial networks and high speed.
The students compared the operation of the satellite communication system under different conditions: on campus at the “SIEMENS” Educational and Research Center and in the open air at the “DTEK” high-tech alley.
Earlier, the university opened a new educational and research laboratory – “Educational Bank”, the Polytechnic signed a Memorandum and will cooperate with the London Metropolitan University, and students of the Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy became active participants of the summer language site “Sprachakademie”.
