On October 24, the cosy open-air auditoriums of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” became a unique venue for the All-Ukrainian Plein Air “Autumn Sketching”. In total, more than 150 participants from the cities of Poltava, Myrhorod, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Sumy, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kyiv, Odesa, Chernivtsi, representing 15 higher education institutions, joined the creative competition. The students of specialty 023 “Fine Art, Decorative Art, Restoration” of the Poltava Polytechnic also tested their creative abilities.
A large-scale art event on the basis of a leading classical university brought together artists, architects and designers, as well as representatives of other fields of study in higher education institutions, around the fixation of the moment by means of quick drawing – sketching. The curator of the plein air was a member of the youth association of artists “Second Sunday of October” under the Poltava regional organization of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine, senior lecturer of the Department of Fine Arts of the Poltava Polytechnic Olena Ostrohliad.
The participants of the All-Ukrainian Plein Air “Autumn Sketching” were greeted by the guests of honour – Vice-Rector for Scientific and International work of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Olena Stepova, Dean of the Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor Anna Aheicheva, the Head of the Centre for Work with Gifted Youth of the Poltava Polytechnic, Olha Sen, and the head of the Department of Fine Arts, member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine, Candidate of Art History Tetiana Zinenko, who wished the artists creative inspiration, pleasant emotions and aesthetic pleasure from contemplating the autumn beauty on the territory of the Poltava Polytechnic.
“The art of catching a moment has always fascinated a person, giving a sense of the magical connection of time, space and oneself. Plein airs have long been part of the world artistic process as a place of creative communication, the union of man with nature and with each other.
Holding a powerful All-Ukrainian plein air “Autumn Sketching” at our university gives a feeling of the autumn fluidity of existence and an invincible faith that spring will surely come, and our dream Victory is getting closer with every step. We are glad that the talented young people of the Poltava Polytechnic are actively participating and creating a bright artistic history with their own hands,” – said the Head of the Department of Fine Arts of the Poltava Polytechnic, Candidate of Art History, Tetiana Zinenko.
During three hours filled with positive emotions and an atmosphere of creativity, the participants were able to capture the change in the autumn mood and weather, feel the rustle of autumn leaves and catch the moderately warm rays of the October sun in order to depict a portrait of their own autumn on canvas with bright colours.
In total, about 400 creative works were submitted for consideration by the members of the highly qualified jury, which will compete for the first place in two nominations – “Autumn Day Moments” and “Autumn Bouquet”. In the near future, the winners will be determined and awarded with honourable diplomas.
The plein air participants got a lot of incredible impressions from pleasant, informal communication, the creative process and the results obtained. The organizers of the All-Ukrainian Plein Air “Autumn Sketching” express their sincere gratitude to all involved and hope for further cooperation.
It should be recalled that sketching is a quick drawing technique. In the English language, the word “sketch" means “picture” or “rough draught”. Such sketches help to work out the composition of the picture, to mark the main elements and lines. This is a kind of “draft” version, the basis for the future picture.
In addition, sketching is a concept related not only to painting. Sketches are used by web designers, game developers, screenwriters, art directors, animators, clothing designers – everyone who works with visuals in one way or another and wants to express their ideas as quickly and visually as possible.
Recently, scientists and students visited the presentation of creative maps of Ukraine, and the personal exhibition of student Valeriia Nosyk “Art that saves” was opened at the Polytechnic.
