Student Mykhailo Serdiuk becomes the bronze medalist of the World Cup in martial arts among students

A student of the National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic" Mykhailo Serdiuk competed for the national team of Ukraine at the World Cup of Martial Arts among students. The athlete successfully passed the qualifying competition in Muay Thai boxing, entered the semi-finals of the prestigious international tournament and became a bronze medalist.

The student national team of Ukraine performed at the FISU University World Cup Combat 2022, which took place from September 19 to October 1 in the Turkish city of Samsun.

More than a thousand students from 50 countries of the world, representing 344 universities of the world, took part in the Student World Cup in Martial Arts. The competition program consisted of six sports: boxing, freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling, sambo, karate, Muay Thai boxing and wushu.

Mykhailo Serdiuk, a student of the Educational and Research Institute of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Land Management of the National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic", successfully passed the stage of qualifying competitions in the Muay Thai boxing in the weight category of 54 kg and reached the semi-finals of the prestigious international competition. On the seventh day of the competition, he won a bronze medal, adding the award to the national team's treasury.

As a result, the student national team of Ukraine won 66 medals: 19 gold, 25 silver and 22 bronze as well as took the second team place.

Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Serhii Shkarlet congratulated the student team of Ukraine:

"I am overwhelmed with emotions that our student team represented Ukraine in a dignified manner at the prestigious international competition among students in Turkey. This is a very high result! In a difficult time for the country, the Ukrainian students show that they are athletic, strong and are among the leaders in the world.

Ukraine is proud of you – the winners, prize-winners and participants of the World Cup in martial arts among students.

I sincerely congratulate students, coaches, rectors and everyone involved with a successful performance at prestigious international competitions.

Recently, student Mykhailo Serdiuk became the champion of the European Universities Games-2022, student Anthony Jirkins became the silver medalist of the European Universities Games-2022, and the President awarded the Order of Merit of the II degree to a graduate of the university – a several-time world champion in Thai boxing.

It should be recalled that the rector awarded the students of Poltava Polytechnic for their sports achievements.
