Student of the FPCS wins five medals of the Rowing Championships of Ukraine on the “Dragon” boats

A student of the Faculty of Physical Culture and Sports of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” Kateryna Petrenko became the silver and bronze medalist of the Rowing Championships of Ukraine on the “Dragon” boats held in Zhytomyr. The athlete won 5 medals at distances of 200 and 2000 meters.

In the period from September 30 to October 2, 2022, in Zhytomyr, on the basis of the local hydropark, the Rowing Championships of Ukraine on the “Dragon” boats was held, the participants of which were about 400 athletes from Kyiv, Poltava, Rivne, Volyn, Dnipropetrovsk, Khmelnytskyi, Lviv, Vinnytsia and Zhytomyr regions.

Within the framework of the Championships, athletes competed in the age categories of 12-14 years, 15-18 years, 19-39 and in the “Masters” category – 40 years and older. According to the organizers of the sports event, there could be many more participants if it were not for the war.

A student of academic group 401-FS of the Faculty of Physical Culture and Sports of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” Kateryna Petrenko became a silver and bronze medalist of the Rowing Championships of Ukraine on the “Dragon” boats, becoming the winner of five medals at distances of 200 and 2000 meters in the age group categories from 19 to 39 years old.

The athlete won silver medals at the following distances:

  • 200 m women 19 – 39;
  • 200 mix 19 – 39.

Kateryna Petrenko won bronze awards at the following distances:

  • 2000 m mix 19 – 39;
  • 2000 m women 19 – 39;
  • “dragging of the boat “Polissia Dragon”.

For the first time, Zhytomyr became a sports location for the two-day Rowing Championships on the “Dragon” boats for adults. However, it was distinguished by the high level of the sports event and gave participants and spectators a vivid and unique experience of conquering the strong current of the Teteriv River.

“If earlier the Championships of Ukraine was held exclusively in Kyiv, now all the people of Kyiv and not only, really want to go to Zhytomyr, since we have a very good hydropark and a good current, which allows us to hold such competitions,” – commented the Head of the Office for Family Affairs, Youth and Sports Iryna Kovalchuk.

Recently, student Kateryna Petrenko became the bronze medalist of the Dragon Boat World Championships.

Previously, Polytechnic student Nikita Solovei became the gold medalist of the Open Championships in military-sports all-around, students of the Faculty of Physical Culture and Sports won a set of awards at the Canoeing and Kayaking Championships of Ukraine, and a student of the Educational and Research Institute of Oil and Gas became the world champion in powerlifting among female juniors.
