Future professional rehabilitation therapist Anastasiia Bondarenko successfully combines studying with work in the field of rehabilitation. With the advice of Deputy Head of Physiotherapy and Ergotherapy Department Liudmyla Kletsenko, the student conducts scientific research.

One of the latest research papers titled “Our experience of applying kinesitherapy during the rehabilitation of patients with the Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease” was presented at the I International Scientific and Theoretical Conference “The Driving Force of Science and Trends in its Development” in Coventry, the UK.

“While studying kinesiology at university, I got interested in the issue of kinesitherapy, and have been deepening my knowledge on this subject and developing my therapy skills for over a year in my free time,” the student said. “Kinesitherapy is my main scientific interest. I participate in the development and practical testing of the physical rehabilitation program for patients of different ICD groups. Every session of this rehabilitation program lasts for approximately an hour and includes a range of exercises with special equipment chosen individually for every patient.”

The Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease is a genetic disease the symptoms of which are muscle tissue wasting and loss of sensation across various body parts. The disease can progress into deformation of legs, ankles and feet. Overtime, the disease can affect other parts of the body, and its symptoms may vary.

“The efficiency of the developed program of kinesitherapy sessions was tested with appropriate medical methods; we also used psychological diagnostic methods to control the levels of anxiety and depression, and pedagogical methods, such as conversations, questionnaires, pedagogical observation. The testing showed that the kinesitherapy sessions with the program we developed made for improvements in the functioning of the muscles of the patient with the Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, and it improved her overall psychological condition,” scientific advisor Liudmyla Kletsenko commented.

The individual program of physical rehabilitation developed by Anastasiia Bondarenko consists of a complex of exercises performed with special equipment.
