From July 22 to August 19, a master’s student-translator of group 501-FF of the Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy of the National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic" Sofiia Dmytriuk took an active part in the Summer School of Slavic Studies at the Masaryk University in Brno (Czech Republic). Such international experience for active, talented youth became possible thanks to the agreement on cooperation in the field of education and science between the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic dated November 22, 2022.

The Summer School program was focused on five hours of classes in the morning and consisted of an intensive language course, specialized seminars and lectures. In the afternoon, the participants of the Summer School could attend seminars on linguistics and literature, perform lexical and stylistic exercises, visit a seminar on the interpretation of a literary text and informal events on music, art history, Brno history, etc. Beginners of the I and II levels also had to attend additional lessons of linguistic exercises in order to deepen their knowledge and practice the skills acquired in the morning lessons. For the best advanced students a special linguistic and literary seminar was held. The rest of the program included hours of singing, dance lessons and relaxation exercises, and the evenings were set aside for presentations of Czech films. The program also included one-day excursions to the historical places of the Czech Republic – the town and castle of Telč, the Dalešice brewery, the Javoříčsko caves, the cities of Olomouc and Prague.

"The language program of the Summer School was quite intensive, we studied new topics almost every day, but it paid off, as already at the end of the first week we were able to conduct simple dialogues with each other about who we are and where we are from, and at the end of the third week – quite confidently make orders in cafes and restaurants by having translated unfamiliar words from the menu in advance. Participation in this project will be the "highlight" of my summer, because I met many wonderful people from different countries, started learning a new language, found out a lot of interesting things about Czech and other cultures. After a month spent together, it was very sad to say goodbye to the other participants, but I still hope to meet them at future events.

I am sincerely grateful to the Candidate of Philological Sciences, Assistant Professor of the Department of Germanic Philology and Translation, coordinator of international activities of the university, Anna Kostiantynivna Pavelieva, for her help in submitting an application for participation in the Summer School of the Czech Language and for encouraging students not to be afraid and try their hand at various international projects!"– shared her impressions a participant of the Summer School Sofiia Dmytriuk.

It should be recalled that recently the participants of the long-term academic mobility program talked about the peculiarities of studying in Greenland, and five female philology students are doing internships in the international department of the Romanian partner university.

Earlier, a scientist from the Poltava Polytechnic took part in the working meetings of the Eurodoc delegation in Kyiv, a university student took part in a volunteer program from the European Solidarity Corps, and a university scientist became a participant in the Summer School dedicated to innovative means, strategies and approaches to improving the English language learning of Ukrainians.
