First- and second-year students along with scientific and pedagogical staff of the Department of Germanic Philology and Translation of the National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic" actively joined the celebration of the International Translator's Day. Those who already have some practical experience and only take the first steps towards mastering the complex, interesting and desperately essential profession of an interpreter gathered together to learn more about the profession of a translator and shared practical cases of participation in youth exchanges, internships and academic mobility programs.

According to Anna Aheicheva, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities of the National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic", the wide celebration of the International Translator's Day by the student community of the Faculty of Humanities has become another good tradition of Poltava Polytechnic. After all, this is a great opportunity to attract talented student youth to a friendly faculty family, which aspire to become a kind of "bridge" to the world of literature, art, history, and culture of European countries.

"I am happy that our university family has been replenished with a galaxy of interesting, creative, inspired students who strive to develop, study and work in their chosen specialty! In today's world, the profession of translator is not easy, but very honorable, because it is impossible to imagine the volumes of untranslated and unpublished foreign literary masterpieces, thousands of unviewed films, and unread periodicals. With qualified interpreters, more and more people from different parts of the world are getting acquainted with the progressive achievements of mankind, the best examples of science and technology. I sincerely wish you a good mood, inspiration, falling in love with your chosen profession, a sea of happy smiles and positive emotions! Happy International Translator's Day!" – the head of the Faculty of Humanities greeted the student community of future translators.

This year's festive program of the event was actively supplemented with humorous elements, presentations of the translation profession through the eyes of freshmen, practical cases for future specialists in interpretation and exchange of experience in international internships, summer language schools, Erasmus+ youth exchanges.

In particular, Iryna Lobko, a master student of group 501 of the Faculty of Humanities of Poltava Polytechnic, this year's winner of the V. G. Korolenko Literary Prize, made a presentation on "Opportunities for students-translators" and discussed prospects of participation in European educational programs with those present. According to Iryna, first-year students should simply believe in their own strength, not be afraid of changes and use any opportunities for professional growth and self-development.

Tetiana Bilokin, a third-year philology student, who took part in a training on social stereotypes, told about her own experience of youth exchange under the Erasmus + program in Poland. "Be sure to join large-scale educational projects, positive impressions and pleasant emotions are guaranteed!" – encouraged the third-year student.

First-year students showed a humorous scene "We travel around Europe", where they presented their own vision of the benefits of knowing foreign languages. Traveling through Poland, Germany, Spain and England, the young talents of the Faculty of Humanities showed light humor, good knowledge of foreign languages and excellent choreographic abilities.

A kind of "highlight" of the translation event was a mini-presentation in German of a video tour of Poltava, prepared by students-interpreters under the guidance of Candidate of Philology, Associate Professor of Germanic Philology and Translation of the National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic" Olena Dmytrenko. For the creative approach, imaginative idea, original embodiment of the director's aim and victory in the nomination "The Best Guides", the project team was awarded an Honorary Diploma and a commemorative gift on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the founding of Poltava Polytechnic.

Master's student Iryna Lobko prepared a small translation quiz "Difficulties of translation" for the participants of the event, which encouraged them to guess the original title of the film or suggest the wittiest names in the Ukrainian translation. As a result, the winners of the quiz were awarded with goodies.

"Translation of the titles of famous movies – one of the most creative types of translation activities, which, undoubtedly, requires excellent knowledge, orientation in the cultural realities of European countries. Thus, with various games, contests and quizzes we promote the profession of translator, expand our own cultural horizons and encourage learning at least a few foreign languages," – said Iryna Lobko.

"International Translator's Day is a truly grand holiday. Every year personalities who are sincerely in love with the language and native culture are added to our friendly family. In my stock I have a metaphor, which I generously share with freshmen in September – "such a powerful creative landing party has joined our ranks of future translators, which can continue the glorious traditions of its predecessors." With these words I want to inspire young people to new achievements, victories, and charge with vital energy and positivity!

For such a powerful stimulus and additional motivation of linguistically gifted youth at the National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic", with the personal support of Rector Volodymyr Onyshchenko, extremely favorable conditions were created, the excellent material and technical base was updated and modernized. Ukrainian and international partners are willing to invest in the opening of language centers, laboratories, preparing of highly qualified specialists in translation, and graduates of philological specialties are in great demand in the modern labor market," – said Oksana Vorobiova, PhD in Philology, Head of the Department of Germanic Philology and Translation.

At the end of the event, participants had the opportunity to take a memorable photo with the attributes of their home faculty and chat in a warm, informal atmosphere.

International Translator's Day has been celebrated since 1991 at the end of September. The symbolic date was chosen by the members of the International Federation of Translators, associated with the name of St. Iieronim – the patron saint of interpreters. An interesting and creative profession allows people from different countries and continents to find a common language, get acquainted with the achievements of world science and technology, read the most famous literary works and view cinema masterpieces.

Last year, future translators celebrated their professional holiday with master classes and educational games.
