The meeting was accompanied by a consecutive translation into English, which was provided by students-translators of the Faculty of Humanities of Poltava Polytechnic.
According to the speaker, Poltava region has established a COVID-19 anti-record since February 2020 – per day, as of November 10, 1,600 people fell ill with COVID-19, and 40 people died.
The coordinator of the COVID-19 vaccination campaign in Poltava region drew the attention of the audience to the severity of the disease's consequences for human health and told students how to protect themselves and their families as much as possible from the third wave of coronavirus disease and a new dangerous strain.
Olena Filonych, First Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work and Economic Development of National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic", emphasizes that a meeting with a regional healthcare specialist is important for active informing students about opportunities of protecting and preserving their lives and health, especially due to quarantine restrictions.
"Constantly taking care of safe conditions for students and lecturers, the administration takes all possible measures to protect the lives and health of all participants in the educational process, without exception. Today's lecture will certainly yield positive results – young people received additional information about the global consequences of the world pandemic, discussed this socially important topic with practitioners and will make conscious choices in favor of their own safety and health. After all, there is a real way out of the current situation, one should not ignore the scale of the disease spread, with which the whole world is living," – stressed Olena Filonych.
During the meeting, students watched thematic videos, learned about the symptoms of coronavirus disease, methods of its prevention and evaluated statistics on the dynamics of morbidity in the Poltava region.
"My immediate goal is to convey to the general public information about the vaccination process, because every day the situation is changing dynamically and the opportunities to manage the current situation only depend on us. I shared what has already been done in the fight against the pandemic, told about the main types of vaccines and answered the most common questions," – commented the coordinator of the COVID-19 vaccination campaign in Poltava region, head of the Personnel Management Department and Medical Personnel of the Department of Healthcare of Poltava Regional State Administration Oleksandr Ohloblia.
The communication continued in the question-and-answer format. Among the most common questions were the level of effectiveness of the vaccines offered, difficulties with the functioning of the "Diia" mobile application, obtaining "yellow" and "green" certificates of international standard for foreign students and the possibility of changing the vaccine if the first dose of the vaccine has already been vaccinated, which is not authorized in all countries.
After the meeting, all interested students could be vaccinated for free with a two-dose vaccine at the university's mobile vaccination center. As a result, 33 students were vaccinated, including 25 foreigners.
